They claimed to be with Norton Anti-Virus, which doesn’t seem like a proper company name, so I just ended the call.

Got a call from some bloke claiming he was with Norton, saying my computer had viruses or something. He asked when I last paid for my Norton subscription and then started saying I was on a monthly plan. I asked a few questions because it didn't sound right, and then he just cut the call. Proper dodgy if you ask me.

As soon as I pick up, they just cut the call off straight away. The 1471 service gives you the number back but doesn’t let you ring them back or anything, which is pretty useless really. Not impressed at all!

I've been getting calls from these numbers quite a few times now. Whenever I pick up, there's nothing but silence on the other end, then a robot voice says "goodbye." It's really starting to annoy me!

I had a similar experience: a man called and started by stating my full name, then asked me to verify it. As soon as I said yes, he immediately hung up. This whole business of matching numbers to names and scoping out details like this is definitely against a stack of privacy regulations here. Seems like some dodgy individual or group is putting together a sort of reverse lookup tool that regular folks aren’t allowed to use legally in the UK.

On 22nd June, someone rang claiming to be from BT Broadband. They asked for my husband by his first name and mentioned they got his details from his email address. The caller started off asking if he's been getting loads of spam emails recently. We just left the call going for around ten minutes before finally ending it. Seemed like they were trying to get into the computer or something. The guy had an Asian accent and said his name was John.
