A day after I gave some money to the Philippines fund, this number rang me up. I called them back and found out it was a charity organisation. They have tried calling me one more time since then. I’ve decided I won’t be donating over the phone ever again.

I’ve had a similar thing happen with UNICEF calls. I usually don’t pick up because I’m cautious about getting charged for unknown numbers. Lately, I've been getting quite a few calls though. Honestly, the “no call” text option doesn’t seem to do much, sorry if that's a letdown.

I totally get all the other posts about the Text Charity. It feels like they're pushing kindness a bit too far. After this, I’m definitely done with it. Next time I bump into the lady in Chesterfield pushing this, I’ll be sure to tell her exactly how my good intentions turned out.

After sending a donation via text to UNICEF yesterday, I just got a call from 020 3435 5718. I checked the text confirmation they sent, which included a link to www.unicef.org.uk/smssyria. That link leads to UNICEF’s site where it says: “We want to share more about our work with children, but if you prefer not to be contacted, just text NOCALL to 70007. It might take up to one working day to take your number off our call list, so please be patient if you do get a call in the meantime.”

No doubt about it, this is UNICEF calling. I was getting hammered with as many as three calls every day until I finally reached out to them myself. They quickly sent back a sorry note for the "bothersome" calls. Like Ricky Tomlinson might say, "bothersome, my backside." Honestly, they're super annoying. If you want to stop it, ring them on 0844 801 2414 or drop a line to [email protected] and make sure they take your number off their calling list.

I had the same experience with giving money over the phone - definitely won't be doing that from my mobile again. I’m not sure if charities understand how annoying it actually is. Even when I told them I’m not able to answer calls during work, they just keep ringing back!

I was hesitant to give donations over the phone before, but I finally tried it just once. Since then, I get constant calls, even during my work hours. No offence to the charities, but I won’t be doing that again.

I signed up for the Telephone Preference Service and it really helped cut down on those annoying calls, though this one number keeps coming through. Since then, I've decided to stop giving to charities over the phone.
