Got a call from this number yesterday but had already blocked it before. Like some others, I had donated to a charity linked with this number. Today, a 'private number' called me, which I reckon was probably the same lot trying another way since the original number was blocked. I picked up and a very polite bloke with an English accent wanted to speak with me. I told him to wait while I fetched the person he wanted, then just left him listening to hold music until he gave up and hung up. Honestly, wasting their time seems to be the best way to get rid of these annoying callers.

I gave some money to support kids caught up in a war, where the weapons are mostly made by rich countries. I chose the option not to be contacted by the charity after donating. Yet, this number keeps calling me. Seems like ticking that box doesn’t prevent them from sharing your details with others, who then live the high life while the kids see hardly a penny. Just got a call from this number on my phone today - I think it’s related to the £5 I gave yesterday for kids with cancer after seeing that Sky News advert. This number belongs to DTV Optimise, one of UNICEF's fundraising teams. The advert did mention I’d get a call, so I was not surprised. It also said if I didn’t want a call, I should text another number shown on the screen. When they called, they thanked me for the text, told me more about UNICEF’s work, and suggested ways I might assist further, as well as how they could keep in contact moving forward.

Yeah, it really is UNICEF if you’ve donated via text. They mention that the follow-up calls are just to say thanks for your donation and to share extra info on how you might support UNICEF further. These calls come from one of their partner firms, DTV Optimise. You can actually OPT OUT from receiving these calls and emails through their website - it’s definitely worth spending a few minutes sorting that out.
