Funny enough, I had a very similar call earlier today. Since I knew my contract was about to finish, when the caller said they were from Carphone Warehouse and offered an upgrade, I played along and ended up with a SIM-only deal. But just like you, I started feeling a bit iffy about the whole thing. So, I rang up O2 and Carphone Warehouse directly. The guy on the line told me he’d never come across “phonespot” before and that it had no connection to them at all.
