I got a text from my mobile provider saying I missed a call from a number, and it showed up as "Ministry of Justice". Even though I had dealings with the MoJ earlier this year, I wasn’t expecting any calls from them now. I’m not planning to call back as it feels dodgy. My guess is the scammers might have got my details from the public probate records that the courts release. If that’s what’s happening, then anyone who’s recently been granted probate might start getting these fake calls claiming to be from the Ministry of Justice.

A bloke named Harry Thomas rang me from a different number before putting me through to some ministry of justice line, telling me I’d broken a traffic law. He asked for my postcode and address, then said I had to cough up £350 right away or the police would arrest me. He also wanted to know if I had a lawyer to speak for me, or else I’d be sent to jail. I told him I don’t do online banking and that I’d rather pay at a bank, but he wasn’t having any of it and tried to help me download an app, which I refused. After a lot of arguing, he called me a rude name and just hung up.

Someone called me saying I need to change my overdraft because they’re trying to collect money I supposedly owe to the hmrc. They said there’s a warrant out for me and the police will arrest me and freeze my bank account and passport if I don’t cough up £998.

I got a call initially from number 07664204423, then they shifted me to another line. They claimed I owe nearly £1,000 in taxes to the government, and it all seemed pretty convincing since they had some of my info. But when they asked me to download the Revolut finance app and pay over the phone, I just told them to ring me back the next day and then switched off my phone.

Got a call from 020 3334 3555 claiming there was income tax fraud linked to the Ministry of Justice’s tax fraud dept. Sounds like a scam to me since I haven’t even earned enough to owe any tax. The caller used high pressure tactics - said the call recording would be evidence in court, and after 45 minutes some officer would arrive to arrest me. They insisted I needed to pay straight away to sort it out. Wouldn’t give me a real number to call back or name the ‘employer’ they mentioned. When I asked more questions, they just hung up. Pretty clear this was a scam.

So, yesterday I got a phone call from someone claiming to be from HMRC. They then handed me over to someone pretending to be from the Ministry of Justice, saying I was involved in some tax crime and could get arrested. There was a bloke with an Indian accent and a woman on the line. Somehow, I got hold of the bank details they wanted me to send money to, supposedly to my “lawyer” called Vijay Maddineni. The account number they gave was legit, which freaked me out. I’ve already contacted the police about it.

They rang me out of the blue, saying I owed £1486 and that letters had been sent out ages ago. Apparently there was now an arrest warrant for me due to tax evasion and fraud. They rattled off loads of details like the arrest warrant and case numbers, then gave me two choices: either attend court or get a criminal lawyer for £2900, which I’d lose if found guilty. When I asked them to verify my latest tax code, they couldn’t. They told me to look up the Ministry of Justice’s number online and check with them. Then the call switched to a weird, suspicious number. I told them it was a scam and said HMRC wouldn’t phone or email about stuff like this, only send letters by post. I told them I’d had no letters, and they threatened to send the police round. I just told them to go ahead and sort it with the police themselves. That’s when they swore at me and hung up. Totally bogus.

I just got a call from someone saying I owed £1486 and that they’d sent letters before. They claimed there was now a warrant out for my arrest for tax fraud and evasion, even giving me supposed arrest and case numbers. They told me I had two choices: attend court or pay for a criminal lawyer which would cost me £2900 if I lost. I asked them to verify my current tax code and they couldn’t do it. Then they told me to look up the Ministry of Justice contact and check with them. They called from a dodgy number, so I told them it was a scam and that HMRC doesn’t call or email about tax problems - everything comes through the post. I told them I hadn’t got any letters and they threatened to send the police. I told them I’d handle it with the police and to go ahead. They then swore at me and hung up.

Just got a call from this number. The bloke said he was from hmrc and was enquiring about some tax issue with my last employer. I couldn't hear him properly, then he said he'd call again. He rang back from another 0207 number. When I mentioned it seemed odd that hmrc would call instead of sending a letter, he hung up on me. I only gave him my first and last name.

So I got a call from a private number with this weird Stephen Hawking type voice saying HM REVENUE AND CUSTOMS was after me for unpaid tax. I pressed 1, someone picked up but no one said a word, then hung up. Two minutes later, I get another call but now the caller ID says Ministry of Defence, same stuff about HMRC. They asked for my name, so I said 'Barry Manilow' lol. Then she started her usual script, I said "oh really" all sarcastic and she just hung up. Watch out, they’re spoofing numbers and caller IDs pretending to be official like the Ministry of Defence.

Someone rang me claiming to be Officer Mike Foster, saying I was involved in some tax fraud and demanding £2000 or else I’d face court. He said he was from the Ministry of Justice and even tried to call me from an official number, but the call didn’t connect properly. I told him I was skint and couldn’t pay, so he then tried to push me into handing over £500, but I wasn’t having any of it. After that, he asked me to send pictures of my ID, which I refused. We agreed to chat again the next day. Later, once I’d calmed down, I rang the actual Ministry of Justice using a verified number, and a very helpful lady told me it was a scam. She said genuine tax matters wouldn’t involve random calls from that department or requests for bank details.

DO NOT ANSWER THESE CALLS!!! They rang me up claiming I owe £1200 in tax and warned me I'd get a criminal record and my credit score would be ruined if I didn't pay. The guy was really pushy and when I asked for details, he said there were loads of errors in my tax from 2020 to 2022. I told him I'd check with my lawyer and accounts, but he claimed they'd already been contacted and that’s why I had to pay. I told him I was suspicious because there’s so many scams going about. Then he threatened that if found guilty, I could owe £9000, to which I said I’d be fine paying that if it was true. He then told me to deal with the police and hung up when I agreed. Honestly, that’s how these officials act, and to top it off, they’re ringing on a Saturday!

This number pretends to be from the MoJ but it’s a scam. They try to trick you into paying money and get you to install an app called Wyse, which then steals all your banking info and phone data. Never give them any personal info or money, and don’t install the app. If you’ve already shared any details or paid, contact your bank straight away and report it to their Fraud department.

Got a call from this number where someone pretended to be from HMRC, saying I owed them money. They wanted me to switch on my wifi and asked for my card details, which felt really dodgy. They even tried scaring me saying they’d send bailiffs and involve the police. The number they used was 07488221509. Just so you know, HMRC never call or email you about owing money - they always send a letter at the start of a new tax year to inform you about any unpaid or overpaid tax from before.

I was about to get caught up in a phone call where the person was explaining how to dodge an arrest warrant by paying some money, then my cousin showed up just in time. I put the call on speaker and he immediately said, "That’s a scam, hang up now." The caller, with a thick Middle Eastern accent, said his name was Jason Harris before my cousin even got into the room. He told me to grab a pen and paper, listen closely, and not say anything. He then went on about a case number - 892241767 - and an arrest warrant #ESA248-1965. He claimed I owed nearly £1,000 to the tax office for defrauding them, and that I needed to hire a criminal solicitor and so on. I usually think I’m pretty sharp, but I nearly fell for it. So grateful for my cousin stepping in and stopping me from losing cash and getting into hassle.

They claimed to be from HMRC and insisted I owed £2000 in income tax. Then they said they were putting me through to the Ministry of Justice to sort it out. They asked for payment via Transfer Wise, which made me suspicious since that service isn't really used for UK bank transfers here. I contacted HMRC directly using the number on their official site and reported the scam. They confirmed I didn't owe any tax. Sadly, most folks only find this site after they've fallen for these scams, not before. It was a proper mental strain going through it all.

I got a call claiming to be from the Ministry of Justice accusing me of tax fraud. They threatened to take me to court or make me pay over £2000 to sort it out. The first call came from 07947 254961, which seemed dodgy. Then, they even rang me from the official-looking MOJ number (020 3334 3555) to sound legit. But when I dialled that MOJ number myself, I found plenty of warnings online about scams like this. So, be careful and definitely don’t send them any money!

I got a call from 07747645216 saying I owed overdue tax to HMRC and that there was a warrant out for my arrest. They also claimed I missed them at my door on 26th May when they tried to serve court papers. They refused to give me any proper details, making up all sorts of reasons, and told me to speak to my case officer at the Ministry of Justice via another call from 02033343555. They were so pushy and didn’t let me have a moment to check things out myself. The pressure was intense and that’s when I realised it was a scam. I’ve since informed the police and contacted my bank about it.

I got a robo call that said it was from the ministry of justice. Some bloke told me I was involved in a tax fraud and that I had to pay around £1300 to sort it out, saying it was the fine. He kept saying judges would hear me out and drop the arrest warrant, but he rushed me and wouldn’t let me think properly. When I asked for some kind of proof that it was really from the ministry, he just hung up on me.

0203334 3555 So this number called me saying I owed money and threatened legal action. I’m not totally sure if it’s a scam or legit, but it freaked me out since they mentioned the credit cards I use. I haven’t logged into my bank account since the call, though I did get in touch with my bank. The number on my phone matched theirs, but when I spoke to a guy there, he wouldn’t hear me out and kept insisting I was going to court. Proper worrying stuff.

Early this morning I got a call from someone claiming to be Mike Fernandez from the police, saying he was with HMRC. He told me I owed £3000 and threatened to arrest me for tax evasion. Being new to the UK and on my own without any family, I got really scared. I ended up sending them all the money I had. Later, I realised it was a scam. They told me not to tell anyone about it. Now I’m not sure how to get that money back at all.

A bloke claiming to be from HMRC called my 20 year old lad, saying he owed nearly £750 in unpaid tax. I overheard their conversation and went into his room to stop him. He was about to send the money when I got there. Thankfully, he hadn’t entered all his info yet, or he’d have been scammed for sure, just a minute more and it would’ve been too late.

Got a call from someone saying they were from the Ministry of Justice, claiming I owed money to HMRC. The person had an Indian accent and the number showed up as an 07. They directed me to a site that actually had their number on it, making it seem legit. When I refused to pay straight away, they got really angry and started threatening me about being arrested. They said they couldn’t ring me again and that I had to pay during that call to avoid arrest. But then they kept ringing back repeatedly after I ended the call. It’s disgusting how some people try to scare folks into giving them money like that.

They said they were from HMRC then the police. Wanted her to pay £900 straight away. Told her not to tell anyone or the fine would jump to £17,000. Also said she could get 5 years prison and cops were on their way. Luckily she didn’t fall for this. Such nasty scam!

A bunch of scammers pretending to be from HMRC kept passing me between callers because I wasn’t convinced it was really them. BE WARNED: - They’ll accuse you of tax evasion, - Insist you owe them money to avoid arrest, - Tell you to look online to verify their identity but the info they give you isn’t genuine, - Ask you to pay with cards like Revolut so banks can’t refund you, - The "agent" who supposedly contacted me was named MARIANA RADUCAN.
