Got a call with a foreign accent, sounded Asian, saying to press 1 to speak to a case officer. I just hung up straight away! Definitely a tax scam.

Scam artists like these just cause a lot of trouble and honestly ought to be tracked down and prosecuted.

On the 6th of September 2016, at about 3:21pm, I got a voicemail from a man claiming to be with HMRC. He said they were taking some sort of action against me (couldn't quite catch the word). He asked me to press 1 to speak with a Case Officer. It didn’t feel right, so I checked the comments here and it totally confirmed it was a scam.

Got a call earlier today from an automated voice pretending to be from HM Revenue and Customs. They said there was some kind of legal action about to be taken against me. Thankfully, I’d heard about this type of scam before, but it was still pretty scary. Whatever you do, don’t press any buttons - just hang up immediately.

Got a voicemail on my answerphone at about 3.21pm on 6 September 2016. A bloke claimed he was calling from HMRC and said they were taking some kind of legal action against me (couldn’t catch the exact word). He told me to press 1 to speak to a case officer. I knew straight away it was dodgy, then I checked out the comments here which totally confirmed it was a scam. Cheers for that!

Today at teatime, an elderly family member got a call on their landline from this 02033229050 (London) number. The caller was rambling and making really unsettling threats about HMRC and some kind of legal action. It was quite intimidating. I’m definitely reporting this annoying number to all our phone and mobile networks, the local police here in London, and HMRC as well. Everyone else should probably do exactly that too!

Got a call saying HMRC was taking legal action against me, asking me to press 1. Definitely sounded like a scam but still gave me a scare! I checked this site to make sure it was fake. Thank goodness I was the one who heard the message and not my elderly mum, she’d have been terrified.

Got a call from this number earlier, with an automated message claiming to be from HMRC. They said they were about to get a court order against me and told me to press one to talk to my case manager. I felt a bit shook when I first heard it, but once I realised what it was, I just hung up. I'm on the older side, but not that naive. This kind of thing really needs to be more widely known because some folks might get really upset or confused. Not everyone remembers to check websites like this. Cheers.

They had my number showing on their phone and started asking for my insurance number and other private stuff. I said no way and they just ended the call. I got a call from someone claiming that HMRC had taken out an injunction against me, just like the stories I've heard before. At first, I was a bit worried, but I quickly thought it sounded fishy. Still, a small part of me kept doubting. Honestly though, if it were real, I’m pretty sure HMRC would send a letter first asking you to pay anything owed rather than just calling out of the blue.

I’d just say don’t pick up calls from numbers you don’t recognise. HMRC would always send a letter first if there’s a problem. I heard BT is putting out a new service soon to stop spam and scam calls, so that should help a lot.

I got a voicemail on 1571 that was cut off halfway through. The part I caught mentioned 'HM Revenue & Customs taking legal action against you. Press 1 to speak to your case manager.' From what I know, HMRC normally sends you a letter with details and a reference number about any claim or issue. I've already put that number on my big blocklist - luckily my phone has that ability, but I imagine loads of people might freak out over these sorts of nasty calls. Honestly, these scammers really need to be found and put to an end!
