Got loads of missed calls and voicemails from some dodgy HMRC number over the last couple of days, it’s getting really annoying now. Took me a bit, but I finally figured out how to block it, hopefully that stops the nonsense.

Got calls 4 different times today from someone saying they were with HMRC, threatening legal action! Sorted now by blocking them!

BEWARE OF SCAM I got a phone call from 020 3322 7143 where an automated voice told me HMRC was taking legal action against me and to press one to talk to a caseworker about paying up. The man on the line asked for my date of birth, address, and National Insurance number to verify who I was. I gave him my date of birth and address but didn’t have my NI number handy, which he seemed to ignore. He claimed the call was being recorded by HMRC and MI5. The bloke said there had been a tax audit on me from 2003 to 2018 and that I owed nearly £8,000 to HMRC. He warned I could settle now or face court, and if I lost, I’d be locked up for five years and fined £48,000. Plus, he threatened I’d lose all my assets, my National Insurance number, driving licence, basically my whole identity. The ‘caseworker’ insisted that if I paid straight away, they’d cancel an arrest warrant and send an auditor to explain everything - but only once the payment was made. I asked for his name since he had a thick accent and was surprised when he said it was Roger Williams and gave a staff number starting with HM. That’s when I began to realise this was fishy. I said I’d speak to my accountant first and asked if he had a number or email I could use to get back to him. He kept warning that if I hung up, he couldn’t help me. I told him I was keen to pay but wanted proof, maybe someone could come to my house to clarify if it was personal or business tax. Then he just hung up on me. Definitely dodgy. Caller claimed to be Roger Williams but spoke with a thick Asian accent.

I want to warn everyone about a scam linked to the number 020 3322 7143. The call starts with a recorded message claiming "HMRC is taking legal action against you." They then push you to "make a payment today," insisting it must be done through an "Electronic Store." They say there’s a Government Store in Maidstone, but since it might be tricky to get there, they advise you to visit a big retail outlet and buy Google Play vouchers instead. The whole thing felt way too staged - I could hear multiple people in the background handling similar calls and following the same script. At one moment, while still on the call, I considered heading to the police station. But they told me to keep the call connected, quoting some court order that says hanging up would be seen as rejecting the HMRC debt payment. That’s when I suspected they might be tracking me, making sure I’d only go to the Tesco they told me about to buy the vouchers - definitely no police. This scam is pretty clever, but any request to pay HMRC debts with Google Play vouchers should be a big warning sign. They even use a recorded voice identical to the official HMRC automated line, which makes it sound legit. Just be careful and don’t fall for this trick. The scammer’s number is 020 3322 7143.

This one was just like the other times, when I tried to check if he was really from HMRC by asking a question, he just cut me off. The bloke had an Indian or Pakistani accent. Number was 02033227143.

I got the same scam call, but instead of just asking for vouchers, they pushed me to pay straight into a bank account with a sort code they gave me. They were really pushy and threatened me about some audit from ten years ago, saying I had to pay by today or I’d end up in court. They also mentioned a massive fine of £46,000, plus freezing all my accounts and seizing my stuff - which honestly shook me up. Luckily, before sending any money, I called my bank to sort the payment and decided to check online. That’s when I saw someone else warning it was a scam on here. I didn’t pay a penny and have since reported everything to HMRC with the bank details they provided. Stay careful, people!
