Some bloke from Openreach called me saying my internet was slow. I wasn’t bothered cos I had a feeling it was a scam. He was hard to make out, sounded like he had an Indian accent. I told him he’d end up in jail when they catch him. I always report these dodgy calls to my phone company and the ICO.

Received a call from someone purporting to be from Virgin Media, insisting that my internet connection had been compromised. When I mentioned that my broadband was currently down and I was awaiting an engineer’s visit, the caller bizarrely requested that I boot up my computer. I pointed out that seeing as my broadband was non-functional, that would be rather tricky. He promptly ended the call. There was a lot of distracting noise in the background, and it was clear it was a dodgy call centre operation from abroad-definitely a scam attempt.

Got a call from an Asian lady saying she was from the telephone preference service, telling me my call blocker was running out. Thing is, I’d already had the exact same call earlier this afternoon. So I told this one the same as before, just two words, second word’s “off”!

Some bloke rang saying he was from my internet company, telling me if I didn’t let him run a speed test, I'd get cut off. When I asked him to prove who he was, he got proper angry and said it’d be on me if the internet got disconnected. Totally a dodgy scam call.

Got another call supposedly from Virgin Media today. Our internet has been acting up, but their request to get me to connect to my hub seemed a bit off. Rang Virgin myself and they had no clue about any issues. They confirmed everything was fine. When the same number rang again, I told them I'd already spoken with Virgin, and then they just told me to screw off and cut me off.

Received multiple calls purporting to be from BT, Openreach, and Plusnet. They insisted there was an issue with my router and requested that I press certain keys on my keyboard. I was bombarded with four calls within just five minutes! After reaching out to my actual internet provider for confirmation, they conducted some diagnostics and assured me that there were no problems on their end. Quite suspicious, isn't it?

Got a few calls from what sounded like Virgin or BT scammers. Whenever they ring, I pick up and if they claim my Internet's got issues, I like to mess with them a bit. I'll say something like, "That’s not possible, I’m actually an Internet engineer for whichever firm they mention lol." Or sometimes I say, "Guess I’ll have to inform the local police chief since it’s his internet!" They always hang up pretty sharpish after that.

I witnessed a rather shocking encounter the other day. An elderly lady suffering from Alzheimer’s was clearly distressed during a phone call, and to my disbelief, the caller reacted with considerable rudeness, raising his voice at her. It was utterly disgraceful, especially considering her fragile state.

For about a week they called me each morning, a lady with an Indian accent that was quite hard to follow. She kept asking if I owned a computer, and when I asked who she was trying to reach, she began yelling. It’s a typical scam - they want to get into your computer, change bank statements on screen to fake money transfers, and then push you to send cash or gift cards. Jim Browning on YouTube does a great job of revealing these frauds. If you’re ever bored, giving them the runaround can be pretty amusing.

Received a rather strange call today myself. This time they claimed to be from BT, insisting that they had pinpointed several individuals misusing my connection. They were quite pushy, demanding to know if I owned a laptop, phone or desktop. I decided to play along, as I sensed their true intentions. When I mentioned that I was with Virgin, it didn't phase them at all. The lady then transferred me to a chap who claimed that BT oversees all internet providers, including Virgin. I suggested I’d rather have Virgin tackle the so-called “issue.” Clearly unhappy with that response, they stated they might have to cut off my internet service. I simply replied, “go ahead,” and that was the end of our chat. I truly hope no one falls for their ruse. Their persistence seems driven by the potential reward they believe is at stake. The background was filled with a cacophony of voices, making it evident that many are in on this scheme; it’s quite unnerving, really. Who on earth funds these operatives?

I received a call from a woman with an Asian accent, claiming to represent Virgin Media, stating there were issues with my broadband. Oddly enough, I had a similar conversation yesterday, only from a different number. They're unable to verify their affiliation with Virgin and seem keen on getting you to run the ASSOC command, presumably to convince you they’re legitimate. It's all rather suspicious if you ask me.
