About twenty minutes ago I answered a call from someone I didn't quite get the name of. It was one of those window replacement scams, claiming they were working nearby and asking if I owned the house. Then they wanted to know if my windows were around 10 to 15 years old. I got suspicious and cut them off pretty quickly. I found it really frustrating, especially since I've been on the No Cold Calling list for ages. I've gone ahead and blocked the number now.

His tone was rather commanding, insisting he was from the government and stating there would be modifications concerning residential properties on estates. Since my address contains 'Estate', I suspect my phone number was lifted from a directory, as I’m typically very protective about sharing my number. He rattled on without pausing, mentioning he represented a firm of estate planners, but when he queried if I was the homeowner, I told him candidly that I had no idea who he was and promptly hung up. It infuriates me to be on the receiving end of these unsolicited telephone calls. I truly can't fathom why the authorities haven’t managed to track these calls back to the source and hold the culprits accountable.

That’s the way to report attempts like these and help stop them. There are also two great TV shows on terrestrial channels about phone scams, streaming now on iPlayer and My5. It’s pretty shocking stuff! Apparently, scammers managed to swipe over £1 billion from people in the UK last year - all way too easy for them. If you’ve got a phone and a bank account, or know someone who might be vulnerable, it’s definitely worth a watch.
