Got a phonecall out of nowhere. Picked up but all I got was dead silence on the other end.

Got a call from someone named Chitra, who sounded like she was working for AirBnB and was super keen to help. Must’ve been a follow-up or something.

Airbnb got back to me after I asked if the ID upload request was legit. Still a bit iffy tho, cos I’ve been hosting over a year now and this is the first time anyone’s asked for ID 🤷‍♀️

I received four calls on my Thai mobile, but when I tried to ring them back, there was no response at all. Quite perplexing, really!

I rang AirBnB using this number to book a flat I wanted to rent. It was way cheaper than any other holiday rental sites, so I was a bit suspicious it might be a scam or a copycat site. When the woman picked up, I told her I’d never called an 0203 number before and asked which city it was from. She said she couldn’t say for security reasons.

They claimed to be ringing about my AirBnB listing, but I dont even have a place listed on AirBnB, plus they usually only reach out thru the platform's inbox. Looked up the number and some sites say it’s AirBnB, but those sites seem to be pushing their own rental or property management services, so I think like others that it’s a telemarketer messing around. I got the call right after entering my phone number for a trusted company’s payment process which felt a bit dodgy, but maybe just bad timing.

Airbnb does have call centres globally offering round-the-clock help. The English spoken can vary quite a bit between agents, and since some might be working remotely, that might make a few people suspicious. It’s known that scammers sometimes use stolen info for fake bookings, so it’s possible a genuine rep might ring you. If you get a call like this, just explain it’s not your doing. Stay safe!

Yeh, it’s Airbnb. I was in France and had a problem with the homeowner not sorting stuff out, so they helped me out quite a bit. Bit annoying tho, they ring at weird hours cause they’re dealing with people all over the world.

This is totally a scam. It began when someone set up an AirBnB account using my name without permission. I sorted it out online already, so there was no reason for them to ring me. Best thing’s to just not pick up or put the phone down straight away!
