Got a call claiming to be from HMRC trying to scare me into giving my details. Total scam, obviously. They even pretended to be official but it felt fishy from the start. Don’t trust anyone that rings up out of the blue saying they’re HMRC, especially if they want your personal info!

On Friday 28th August at about 4.38pm, I got a robo-call from a woman with an American accent pretending to be from HMRC, or something called Peters. It was defo a scam. The message said something like, “Peters from Inland Revenue here, call me back on {0203 number}, that’s {0203 number}. Don’t ignore this or you’ll have legal trouble if neither you nor your lawyer get in touch.” Very dodgy and a obvious attempt to scare people.

Got a call from someone pretending to be a cop called Garry Watson, claiming I owed money to HMRC. They tried to scare me by threatening legal action and told me to pay up via some prepaid tech bank. The weird thing is, they knew loads about HMRC’s addresses and postcodes, which freaked me out. Ended the call and made sure to report everything to Action Fraud. Be careful, it’s definitely a scam!

I received a rather suspicious call earlier on from someone claiming to be from HMRC. When I rang the number back, the chap on the other end had a distinctly Asian accent and insisted he was indeed representing HMRC. We got a voicemail on our answering machine and we're a charity. The message threatened us with legal action if we didn't ring back. So, I called the number provided and someone picked up claiming to be from HMRC. When I asked how they could prove it was actually HMRC, the woman rudely told me to check their website. Same here, Margaret Peters. I decided to return their call, and guess what? They requested contact details for my solicitor. I mean, really? I insisted they submit any claims or demands in writing. I'm not about to engage with what seems like a dodgy scheme over the phone. Any correspondence must come through by letter! I certainly won’t be parting with any funds to someone I’ve never met. If it were truly urgent, they should send a letter via recorded delivery to Ronnan Clinton at 100 Pall Mall, London. I did a bit of digging and found that HMRC isn't connected to that address at all-100 Pall Mall, London, SW1Y 5NQ. This reeks of a scam, plain and simple. Steer clear!
