Got a call from someone saying they were from Business Rates and wanted to talk about council tax for my business. Sussed it was just a pest, so I asked her to explain why she was ringing again. She ended up hanging up on me!

They clearly don’t bother with that. Watch out for these scammers. If you want to lower your business rates, just get in touch with your local council’s business rates department yourself. The forms are easy to fill in, no need to pay some expert.

This lady said she was from the Hertfordshire police and wanted to discuss some rates. I told her we don't even live in Hertfordshire. She said she knew that but had our postcode and it showed we were there. I told her the postcode she mentioned is definitely in Hertfordshire, so she must be mixed up. Then she said she was calling about a refund owed to me. I said alright, go ahead, and she just hung up on me straight away.
