How come these people get away with it? I called 1471 and was handed the number 0002389001076! Honestly, I could barely understand what the bloke was saying. He ended up giving me a code and two 0203 numbers to ring if one line was busy. I only stayed on the call that long because I thought it might be something important, like from McAfee or my bank, since they use call centres like that. It’s ridiculous that these calls get through to our answer machines and make us scared of picking up the phone. The only thing these scammers understand is being told off, swear words included. I’ve had this happen before, several times from the same Asian guy in a call centre. Eventually I told him to buzz off and it worked. But these people already have our numbers, and mine’s ex-directory - so they probably know where I live. If I rang someone like that pretending to be from a call centre, especially someone Asian living alone, I’d probably get locked up.

This number rings me a few times each week, usually claiming to be from the Ministry of Justice. The bloke on the other end is always pretty rude and has an Indian accent. Definitely not someone I'd trust.

This number kept ringing me constantly in the past few months, always looking for someone called Mr Quig or Cuic, can't quite tell. The bloke on the phone has an Indian accent and is pretty rude. He won’t admit that Mr Cuic isn’t at this address and refuses to say who he is. Seems like he’s got a list linking my number to that name, but can’t seem to figure out it’s wrong. Every time it sounds like the same guy. Next time, I think I’ll just be as cheeky as he is.

For about a year and a half now I've been getting this annoying phone call from some man with an accent asking if I'm Mr Ruddick. I keep saying no but they just don’t seem to get it. I tried to check who it was by using 1471, then called the number back myself, but all I got was an operator saying it's the wrong number. I've looked into the TPS but they can’t seem to do anything about it. Does anyone know how to make these calls stop?

Somebody rings up, calls you by your name and claims they need to give you a refund from your bank. Then they go through a list of banks asking which one you use (what muppets). Their real aim is to grab your card info, so don’t buy into it - just hang up straight away! And make sure you report them. These con artists really have no shame, do they?!

My answering machine picked up a bloke with no clear accent, sounded like he assumed someone had actually answered. He kept saying "hello" in a kind of playful tone, with loads of background noise like a busy call centre, which I reckon was Asian. Then he just ended the call. The TPS doesn’t really help much with calls like these - still, it’s a bit different from all those solar panel sales calls!

I just told him to bugger off straight away. He was speaking with an Indian accent, and honestly, my first thought with those kinds of calls is always that it’s probably a scam. It's ridiculous to think that most folks would fall for that stuff nowadays. Can’t believe anyone really thinks we’re that gullible!

I got a call from 02032 986629, and a woman asked for me by my name. I didn’t answer straight away and asked who was calling. She mentioned some "Dept of Finance" nonsense, and that’s when I knew it was a scam, so I quickly hung up. These scammers are really dodgy, and I reckon the best thing is to say as little as possible and just hang up as soon as you spot them trying to pull a fast one. It helps you keep some control and doesn’t get you too angry. I also use a call blocker gadget that automatically blocks withheld numbers and any numbers I add to its blacklist. It’s stopped over 85% of those annoying calls. Just look up "cpr call blocker" on Amazon or eBay - it’s a small box and costs about £35. (\_/) (='.'=) Here’s Bunny! Got a call earlier from this number; the bloke had a foreign accent and claimed to be from some Financial Services UK. He was talking about sending me a cheque for some unclaimed bank fees. Problem was, he had the wrong address for me. When I refused to verify my details, he just told me to sort myself out. Anyone know where I can report stuff like this? 10/04/2014

Got a call from this number earlier today, some bloke from Asia claiming he had a cheque for my mum. I told him she’s passed away and to stop calling about her. Then he actually said, “Why did you kill her?” I got really annoyed, but he just started chuckling at me. I ended the call, but he rang me straight back asking why I’d cut him off. Proper disgraceful behaviour.

Got a call around 11:50 this morning on April 4, 2014 but I didn’t pick up cause anyone who really needs to get hold of me already has my mobile. I think it might have been the same person who rang last night at about 5:45 pm. These foreign calls keep coming daily now, but most times the number doesn’t even show up.

This number rang me twice in a row over the past couple of days. The first time, there was nothing but silence, but on the second call they tried the old “you’re due a refund” spiel. Weirdly, they even mentioned my home address - how on earth do they know that? From the accent, I’m guessing they’re based somewhere in Asia, so it’s probably some dodgy data broker selling info to these scammers. The government has the tech to track these guys down, so why aren’t they doing anything about it? Next time they ring, I reckon I’ll just keep chatting with them for ages. It’s more amusing than most TV shows and might keep them busy enough not to target anyone who might actually get upset or alarmed by their calls.

I got a call like that as well! They were asking way too many questions, so I said I needed to check with my bank, and they just ended the call. Afterwards, my bank told me to report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040. If more people do this, maybe they’ll start cracking down on these scams!

Got a ring from this number at 2.29 pm today after getting two other calls earlier this morning from private numbers. Nobody said a word on the other end and the calls ended pretty quickly. Feels like they're maybe seeing which houses are empty, maybe trying to spot people who are away on holiday or something.

This number rang me just yesterday. Someone said they were sending me a cheque, said it was some money I was owed from the Government or something. My partner got a call from these jokers claiming she was due a refund on bank charges and they’d post a cheque. When she asked them which bank it was, they just kept saying "your bank" over and over. She asked again to be sure, and they kept repeating the same, then suddenly started swearing at her, calling her a right offensive name. Honestly, BT should block this number straight away. My partner's just coming out of surgery for a brain tumour, so this is the last thing we need.

So I got a call from some bloke in India asking for Mrs M. When I asked who he was, he launched into this long spiel about bank refunds and said he was gonna send a cheque to my address. Thing is, Mrs M hasn’t had my number for like over six years, so I wasn’t shocked the address he gave wasn’t mine. What did throw me was him just blabbing the address without even making sure he was speaking to the right person. When I challenged him on it, he just repeated what he said before, only louder and more pushy. I told him straight-up that the number, name, and address weren’t mine and that he wasn’t paying attention. He tried to say he just wanted to send me a cheque, but I told him he wasn’t listening at all. Then he hung up on me. Honestly, I’m so over these aggressive calls that are meant for someone else!

This number phoned me again today, around 1:30pm on 27/03/2014, even though I've asked them to stop plenty of times. When I said I was recording the call by hitting a button on my phone, the bloke called me a daft old geezer - like he knows me personally or something! So I started my usual “Want to buy a goat? Want to buy a goat?” spiel. Gotta admit, the guy was quite fluent in English, especially the swear words!

Just got a ring from this number as well - and FYI, it’s not even a real one. I honestly can’t believe anyone still falls for these dodgy calls. Don’t ever share your info, hang up straight away and report it to the Police on 101. But make sure you wait for the dial tone before calling back, otherwise you’ll probably end up chatting to the same scammers again!

Received a call from someone who spoke with a foreign accent, really pushy about getting the last few digits of my bank card. They claimed the bank was sending me a cheque and needed info. Someone called me asking for my bank info, which seemed really dodgy. Never trust these kinds of calls!

Got a call saying something about me being charged too much on bank fees. When I asked if they meant PPI and said I’d never paid for that, the person just told me to be quiet and then just ended the call on me. Proper rude!

They call me daily, but as soon as I pick up, they just cut the call.

On 25/03/14 around 2:15 pm, I got a call from 02032986629. The caller had a strong Indian accent, which made it hard to catch what he was saying. He claimed to be ringing from UK finance on behalf of my bank. When he asked me to verify my postcode, I said he had it wrong - he didn’t, but since I don’t hold an account with that bank, I figured it was probably a scam or something dodgy going on, maybe both!

Had a call from someone with a really heavy Indian accent, saying I was due a refund because of some bank overpayment. They tried to confirm my address, reading it back to me, then pushed for my date of birth. When I wouldn't give it, they got a bit annoyed, so I just ended the call. Honestly, they’re the ones who should have the phone put down on them!

I said hello and they just dropped the call, maybe I come off as too intimidating or something...

Got a call at my house this morning, 25th March around 10:15am, from someone with a strange accent. They said they'd send me a cheque refund and wanted me to confirm my address. When I asked if they were scammers, they just hung up. Definitely a dodgy one to watch out for. If you get calls like this, I reckon listing the number here or checking it with 1471 helps warn others. But seriously, how come the phone companies who profit from these numbers don’t do more to stop these obviously dodgy callers?

Got a call from someone saying they needed to verify the last 4 digits of my bank account. They said there was some kind of loyalty payment ready to be put into my account. The funny part was, when they first spoke, they said I was with a bank I've never even had an account with! Total scam, obviously.

So, got a call earlier today, 24/3 around 2.10pm, from someone saying we had overpaid for something and they were gonna send us a cheque. My hubby didn’t really get what they were saying and said he’d give it to me, then they just ended the call. Pretty clear that was a scam.

I got a call from someone claiming they were with the UK Department of Finance over in Eastbourne. They said I was owed a refund for some bank fees that had supposedly been taken unlawfully and wanted to send me a cheque. They mentioned my address including the postcode and asked if it was right, but I didn’t confirm anything. When I asked where they’d got my number from, the caller - a guy with a strong Asian accent - started rambling and then abruptly hung up on me. Watch out, this is definitely a scam playing on the recent banking controversies, very similar to those old Nigerian email scams. Honestly, I hope these fraudsters get found out and face punishment for tricking ordinary people like us.

Got a call from an Asian woman saying I had paid too much and they wanted to give me a refund. She asked to check my address, then just cut the call. Tried calling back but the number won’t accept incoming calls.

This number has been ringing me nonstop for a few weeks now, often more than once a day. Each time I answer and say hello, they just cut the call straight away. So annoying!

I got a call today from these folks, but they ended up hanging up as soon as they figured out I wasn’t the older person they were looking for. Honestly, I’m really glad I looked up the number first. Lately, I’ve had to change phone numbers for elderly family members twice because of this.

Got a call just now from this number. The guy said his name was Jim something, sounded like he had an Indian accent. He was telling me the bank’s gonna refund what they wrongly took off me. About time, right? But as soon as I told him I wasn’t giving out my birth date ‘cause it’s private, he just hung up on me. So I suppose I’m not getting my cash back from the bank then, unlucky me. Feels like these folks have copies of our phone numbers and addresses. I swear, this all began after B.T. started outsourcing jobs to India, yet no one seems bothered to fix it. Got a call from this number saying my bank was refunding some charges. When I asked who it was, they just dropped the call. I tried ringing 1474 and this number came up, but picking option 3, the operator told me it wasn’t a recognised number. They’ve called me before too, but I really don’t want to get anymore calls from them now.

On the 22nd of March, which was a Saturday, I got a call from this number around 2:50 in the afternoon. I decided not to pick up and let it go to voicemail, but there wasn’t any message left. When I tried calling back, all I got was an automated message saying no one was available.

Got a call on Saturday 22nd March. The bloke asked for my missus’ name and age. When she refused, he replied “that could cause you some trouble.” She pointed out his rude behaviour and he just cut the call off.

Got a call from this number and the person’s English was really bad. They claimed I was due a refund for some bank fees and said they’d post a cheque to my house, insisting they had my address right. I told them I didn’t believe a word of it, and after a few more unclear words, they just hung up. Totally sounds like one of those scam calls to me. I’ve started blocking this number along with a bunch of others now. Luckily, my phone has caller ID, an answer machine, and the option to block numbers, so I’m using those features to keep scammy and unknown callers who don’t leave messages off my line.

Just got a call from these lot, and creepy enough, they already had my full name, address, and even my DOB. They kept asking me which bank I wanted my cheque paid into. When I told them they didn’t need those details, the guy got a bit irate. He tried to convince me the cheque was for some fees I’d supposedly been overcharged for, but I told him I hadn’t been charged anything like that. He insisted I had and that’s why they were sending a cheque. Again, he pushed for my bank info. I refused, said they only needed my name and address to post the cheque. The bloke got a bit pushy, and for a moment, I doubted if I was being too stubborn. It made me think about how vulnerable older folk or confused people must feel in situations like this. Honestly, this needs to be stopped. Oh, and I ended up just hanging up.

My missus and I got a call from this number claiming the bank owed me some cash and asked what bank I use. I told them to give me their number so I could ring back. The way he spoke to us was awful and I won’t repeat it here. Then he just cut the call. Watch out for these muppets!

Got a call today from someone saying my bank owed me cash and wanted me to confirm my info. Didn’t give any of my details, asked him to send something in writing so I could check with my lawyer but he just hung up on me. The bloke had an Asian accent. Really worried this could trick more vulnerable people.

They’ve called me a few times claiming there’s some sort of money owed because of fees we supposedly paid too much on at our bank. I’m not sure if it’s legit or just some scam. Every time I try to listen they turn nasty, so I end up just hanging up on them.

I told him right away he better not be one of those telemarketers, as I'd be proper annoyed if he was (we're waiting for calls from doctors). Then he kept pestering me, asking "why you angry?" so I just hung up on him.

Had a call from this number earlier. The person sounded like they knew stuff about my bank card but I made sure not to give anything away. When I said I was hanging up, he got really angry. Poor older folks and those more vulnerable - they must get really scared by these scammers.

This number gave me a ring earlier. I warned the guy to stop calling or I’d report him to the ICO for harassment. He just shouted back, saying there was nothing I could do about it. Claimed I was due a refund for being overcharged by my bank, but wouldn’t share any specifics. Proper annoying.

Sometimes, they fake the number, even making it look like it's coming from your own bank. It's called "number spoofing."

It’s the same story over and over. I just got a call from this guy who called me stupid because I couldn’t catch what he was saying because of his accent! Proper rude and such a waste of time. Why don’t they just get shut down already? I’m signed up with TPS too and they still manage to keep ringing me.

It’s always the same story, honestly. I just got a call and the guy ended up calling me dumb ‘cause I couldn’t get what he was saying with his accent! Proper rude, and just wasting my time. Why don’t they just stop? I’m on the TPS list too, but they still ring me nonstop.

Got a call on this number earlier today, it was for my husband. The caller, a Chinese lady he couldn’t quite catch, seemed to already know his name and our postcode. She wanted him to give his birthdate, which he wisely refused. She claimed there was some kind of interest refund to be paid into his bank. When my husband asked me to listen in, putting it on speaker, they just hung up. We’re on the TPS list, unlisted number, and aren’t even on the electoral register, so it’s baffling how they got this info.

Got a call from a guy called George, sounded like he had a strong Asian accent, claiming to be from some UK finance company offering me a refund. He somehow had my name and even my address, which he wanted me to confirm. I kept saying I couldn’t hear him properly, and he got really annoyed with me. When I asked again which company he was representing, he just repeated my address. I told him there’s no way that’s right, he just said, “Well, you heard that then.” Next, he asked for my date of birth. That was the last straw, so I just ended the call. Checked the number later and found others had similar experiences. This sort of thing needs to be stopped - especially as I’m meant to be resting after a heart operation, not dealing with dodgy calls from someone like George!
