Got a call from a bloke saying I’d been picked for an 8k government grant. He asked for some personal info, but I only gave him my name, address and postcode, nothing more. Then he gave me another number to ring with a code to supposedly unlock the cash. I haven’t called that number yet. Fingers crossed I haven’t messed up by sharing my details. Some bloke claimed he was calling all the way from London, number 002 389001076, telling me I'd been picked for an £8,000 grant. He said I just needed to contact Florence Berry, some accountant at the Government Grants Department, on 020 32398052. They said I could either give my bank info (which is a big NO) or go pick up the grant at the post office. Obviously, I ain't planning on calling this Florence Berry at all.

She’s got epilepsy, can’t see out of one eye, has bad memory issues, and relies on benefits! It really upsets me, she nearly got scammed out of her cash! I asked for proof but just felt off about it. Didn’t chase it up coz all official UK government sites use .gov.uk, so it sounds like a scam to me!

Absolutely no chance you should be handing over any cash! They’re masquerading as agents from some UK government grants office, promising funds for upstanding citizens. It’s all a load of nonsense!

Got a call from someone claiming to be the “British Government” named Michael. He said I was getting £8,000 because I’m a good citizen who always pays bills on time. The money was supposed to be used for stuff like energy bills, not for anything else. He gave me a number to call his boss and a code to mention once I’d finished the call. I ended up on the phone for ages, querying every detail and making him repeat himself multiple times. If we all started responding like this, would it not help to reduce the number of these calls getting through to people?

I told them straight up that the government doesn’t work like this but she kept trying to persuade me. I played along, got some info from them and told them they were crooks and I wasn’t daft. Kept saying they weren’t the government and to quit ringing and trying to scam folks. Even gave them the government’s London address, which they’d clearly googled. In the end I said if they were legit the government would already have my info and to just post the money or something!! Then I hung up. I’ll send them a text like you suggested.

I've just received a similar call myself, and I decided to be courteous and lets them ramble on with their little spiel, all while enjoying their time on the line. I got a call from these rotten scammers too, and they told me the exact same rubbish. But here’s a little tip. Just use your mobile to text the 0203 number they give you. BT’s text system will send a message back, and if it’s not replied to, it will keep sending. If you’ve got unlimited texts, just keep blasting them with messages. If loads of people do this, their line will get clogged and they’ll probably give up pretty quickly.

I got a call from these absolute scammers too, and they ran the exact same nonsense on me. But here’s a tip - grab your mobile and text that 0203 number they give you. BT’s text system will reply, and if you ignore it, they keep trying to reach you. If you’ve got unlimited texts (like most folks do), just keep blasting them with messages. Eventually, they’ll get frustrated ’cause their line will be flooded and they won’t want to deal with it anymore.

Got a call recently from a bloke named Jack Stephens who said he’s a Verification Officer with the UK Government Grants Department. He told me to ring his Bank Manager on 0203 290 5985 to claim an £8,000 grant - said it was a one-time chance - and gave me some activation code too. It sounded too good to be true, so I looked the number up and found loads of others being promised grants like this. It’s really worrying, especially for older folks. They gave an address too: 1st Floor, 330 Holborn Gate, High Holborn, WC4 7QT - surely something should be done to stop this??

My elderly sister, who’s blind and 80 years old, just got a call from this number too. Like others here have said, they claimed she had £8k free from the Government. Got the exact call earlier today, told the guy I was looking them up online while on the call, he asked me to hold on, but I just hung up. Then I reported it to Virgin since I wasn’t sure if they were messing with my phone line or something. It’s awful, could easily fool an elderly person. We’ve now signed up with the TPS to block them.

I got a call from someone called Jimmy using the number 000258900076. He told me to ring his account manager on 02032905985 and use my code to collect £8000, then head to the Post Office to pick up the cash. I tried to report it to TPS but they said they don’t deal with calls coming from abroad.

Got a call from a woman with a foreign accent around lunchtime today, claiming the UK government had picked me for an £8000 gift for being a model citizen. She said I had to visit the local post office to collect the money, but first needed to pay £210 in cash to get the so-called non-repayable grant. She told me to call her on my mobile before doing anything and to keep it secret. Obviously, it was a total con. If you get a call like this on your number, just ignore it. some foreign guy called me, his english was really bad, gave me number 02032905985 and id code It441. they rang again today 06.08.15 at 10.41 am with the same story. he claimed to be a good bloke, no criminal record, always pays tax and said he got a loyalty payment from the government and treasury dept. my number is on the do not call list so how did they get it? this needs looking into fast before some vulnerable person gets scammed out of their savings.

Got a call from some bloke named Henry, claiming he’s from the U.K. Gov. Grant Debt, saying I could get £8,000 if I pay rent and tax on time and have a clean police record. Yeah, as if! Sounds like a total scam to me. This could easily fool my mum, who’s 86 and really weak, or any other elderly folks who are vulnerable! Checked out this site and glad to see I wasn’t imagining it. Got a call from a guy called Michael with an Indian accent, saying I’m due £8000 for tax payments or something. He gave me a number and a code to claim the cash. I asked if he’d ever jerked off into a bucket - he didn’t get it. Tried saying if he’d fiddled with himself in a bucket, still no clue. Then asked if he’d looked the word up online or in a dictionary. He passed me to his supervisor, who went on about the money and then just cut me off. Proper dodgy.

this is totally a scam no doubt about it. stay clear of this. Western Union is well known for being a favourite of scammers. if you ring them back just say you want to pay on your credit card so you can use section 75 protection and watch what they say, quite funny. SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!

Marcus rang me around 10:45 this morning, telling the usual tale like the ones mentioned earlier. He said I’m eligible for an £8000 grant from the UK Government Grants Dept because I pay my taxes on time and don’t have any criminal history. He gave a Grant ID number and told me to phone 02032905985. Then at 11:20, Christine phoned me with the same story but a different Grant ID number.

They told me they were from the British Government Grants & Treasury in High Holborn, London WC1V 7QT. They claimed I'd been given £8,000 because of my solid payment record. I was told to go to the Post Office and pay a refundable fee of £110 and then share an activation code to unlock the £8,000. The person I spoke with was Rosey McAdam. THIS DEFINITELY SMELLS LIKE A SCAM.
