11 yearsLike a lot of others here, my dad got a call yesterday. They told him he was due a £4500 tax refund from the government. Before he believed a word, I told him to be careful and that it was likely a scam. I mentioned he might have to pay money upfront to receive anything back, which sounded dodgy. I think he got the hint. He then called me back showing only the phone number, and sure enough, I was right all along. Later, I had a word with "Mr LEE" on the line. It sounded like more than one person was involved in the con. I warned him I'd reported the number and him to the Fraud Squad. Hopefully, that’ll stop them from pestering my dad again.Mr Lee11 yearsToday, I got a ring from a woman who claimed there was a government refund of more than £4,000 waiting for me. She said I’d need to sort out a tax payment of about £400 and send it to their Barclays account first. She also mentioned I'd get called again by another person. Something about it felt off, and I’m pretty sure it’s a scam. Tried looking up the number, but there’s no info anywhere about it.Barclays12 yearsI got a call earlier from someone saying they were with the Ministry of Justice. They asked me to call back on a number I wasn’t comfortable dialling, so I didn’t.Ministry of Justice12 yearsI got this call too, saying I’m owed £4500 and that I was picked from 3000 people to get this payment. I’ve never had anything like this pop up when getting a tax refund before. I’m planning to contact my tax office just to check everything properly. Reading through other comments, I’m feeling quite suspicious about the whole thing. I’m struggling with depression and money problems, so at first it felt like a miracle, but thankfully I didn’t call back before I did some digging.12 yearsA few days ago, I got a call from this number telling me I was owed some money. They told me to go buy a £151 cash voucher from a shop and give them the code. I did what they said and sent them the voucher details. Last night, I ended up contacting the police because I’m dealing with depression and got tricked by it all. Then today, I rang the shop myself and discovered it was all a scam. Just a heads up to everyone, be careful!12 yearsI had a pretty much identical run-in like Betty Dunne did. Someone rang me up saying they were from the Ministry of Justice and claimed we’d been overcharged on taxes, and that we were due £4,500. They told me to ring a different number where I could speak to their “Higher-up”. Sounds to me like one of those scams where they just keep you waiting on the line forever. Honestly, if BT started cutting calls off after 2 seconds hold, maybe these dodgy calls would stop happening.Betty DunneMinistry of JusticeBT12 yearsThis morning, I got a couple of calls from this number. A young bloke said he was from the Ministry of Justice’s Reclaims Department. When I asked for his address, he told me it was 100 Parliament Street, London, SW1 E2BQ. He claimed I was owed £4,500 and just needed to ring another number to speak with his “senior officer”. I said okay but didn’t intend on calling until I found out more. An hour later, he phoned back asking if I’d been in touch with the senior officer. I said I’d been busy, and he said he’d call again later. I've had dodgy calls like this before and was quite worried about it. I reckon it’s a scam, but I’m not sure what steps I should take next.Ministry of JusticeReclaims DepartmentParliament StreetLondon12 yearsScam alert! Just received a phoney tax refund notification.
