I got a call from this number saying they were from Alpha Technology. They claimed there were loads of issues with my PC and took ages "fixing" them via remote access. Then they hit me with a £399 bill! Later on, another company ran a scan with TomTo.com and found they had actually left viruses and kept access to my data. They cleaned up all the dodgy stuff left behind.

Just like others have mentioned, I got a call from a bloke with an Asian accent claiming there was an issue with my laptop. He said he could sort it out but needed to connect remotely. He even knew my email and the date I bought the computer, so I’m guessing that info was lifted from some hacked database. He said he was calling from some UK Support company or whatever. My advice? Keep them chatting for as long as possible, but don’t give away any personal details. Pretend you don’t understand tech at all, like saying “I know nothing about computers,” and hang on until they get fed up.

Just got off the phone with these lot. They claimed I paid them a couple of years back for computer security help - well I’ve gone through my bank records and there’s no sign of it at all. Reported the whole thing to the police and even my MP. What’s odd is that after this number turned up on Google, it suddenly got switched off. Who's meant to be sorting that out? Then the same bloke called again but gave a different name. I might be an old bird but I’m not daft!

My bloke picked up our home phone, and some guy with an Indian accent started going on about a laptop he and his mates supposedly fixed a while back, saying it was brand new. I only caught on a couple of years later when they called again, promising to look after it for life! At the time, they tried to get us to pay about £800, but then we realised, a bit late, that we'd already handed over £795 before. That’s when it hit us that we'd been taken for a right ride. I spent hours on the phone with these awful lot, pretending to sort out my new computer. We were struggling with the password and tried to get McAfee involved, but they said it wasn’t their issue and passed us onto these scammers. I still have the McAfee leaflet from when we bought the computer at Argos, with the real contact details. Heather Wood
