Just like what others have said, I got a call where they played a recorded message as soon as I picked up. So, I rang back and found out they were claiming to represent some Hilda Godder or Goddard. They threatened to arrest me, and when I mentioned my hubby works for the police, they asked for his personal info and even said they’d be arresting him as well. Total scam! HMRC would never contact folks like this, especially not demanding info over the phone. They always use letters, never emails or calls like that. Be careful and don’t fall for it.

Got a voicemail from someone claiming to be Jennifer Brown from HMRC, but she never said who she wanted to speak to which felt a bit dodgy right away. The voice on the message sounded robotic and kinda like one of those cheesy American cop shows. She warned about legal trouble unless I or my lawyer got back to her. I haven’t bothered calling back and went ahead and blocked the number.

someone called saying they were from hmrc, but the whole thing seemed way off so i just ended the call. after that i looked up the number and yep, it's a scam for sure. hmrc would never get in touch like that. gotta watch out for anyone pretending to be from the inland revenue. a mate of mine got the exact same call last week - they claimed she was under investigation for tax fraud. weirdly, the phone showed it was a real hmrc number, but when she called them back directly, they told her it was definitely a con. now the number is blocked for me too.

Got a voicemail supposed to be from HMRC. When I rang back on my home phone, it was some call centre outside the UK. The bloke on the line was trying to get me to give personal info but I made it awkward for him, and then he just hung up!

Got a call from this number with a recorded voice warning about heavy fines from the tax office if you don’t ring back. I’d say don’t bother calling them back because it’s absolutely a scam.

Got a call from someone saying they're from HMRC, telling me there's an inquiry into tax evasion or something like that. They didn’t want to send me any proof over email though. At that point, they weren't asking for cash or anything. Do you think they'd ring again to try and get money? I've just blocked the number now anyway.
