After going through the comments on this, I shut down my PC and gave it a restart. It ended up installing quite a few updates but everything seems to be working alright now.

Got a pop-up on my laptop saying it was from Microsoft and to ring a certain number. Felt fishy, like they wanted to get into my system. Switched it off straight away and flagged it as a scam. Be careful with these kind of messages!

So, the guy ringing was Stuart Wright from 21A Plymouth Road, Barnt Green, Birmingham, B45 8JF. Turns out he’s got a fraud conviction. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone finally gave him a taste of his own medicine - no wonder he’s living in such a fancy big place!

Honestly, if it were me, I’d probably just grab some antivirus software. Looks like you've caught something nasty on your device.

My laptop started showing pop-up alerts claiming to be from Windows Defender. I ended up calling the number they gave, and they immediately asked to access my machine remotely. Feeling uneasy, I told them I needed to verify who they were first. They then threatened that if I didn’t comply, my computer would suffer major issues and Microsoft wouldn’t help me when it broke down. I'm running a virus scan right now, but I’m pretty certain it was just a con.

Something similar happened to me once. I wasn’t sure if he could’ve installed a virus on my laptop or not. I told him I’d look into it first before letting him access anything, then just ended the call.

Got loads of warnings and pop-ups just like before. It's definitely a scam, so I just switched off my computer and everything's back to normal now.

Yesterday my laptop popped up a warning that someone was attempting to get into it, and today it happened once more! Honestly, I just ended up turning it off.

I got a notification on my laptop from this number, saying I should ring them because there was an attempt to get into my account.

Got a call that was clearly a scam. My computer suddenly froze and loads of loud alarms went off with messages about illegal activity linked to my IP. The phone number they left was meant to be Microsoft support, but it was a fake site pretending to be official. When I rang that number, they tried to get into my computer, so I cut the call straight away. I looked back at some previous calls from that number and it was all the same scam stuff. I should have been more careful, but it all seemed legit at first. Lucky I didn’t let them in, otherwise who knows what could have happened. Be careful, these con artists are getting smarter all the time!
