I got a rather dodgy recorded call that claimed to be from HMRC, stating it was urgent and demanded my immediate response! They even implied that failure to comply would lead to legal action! Curious, I decided to ring back the number, only to be greeted by a chap with a strong accent who hung up on me without a second thought! I've now added that number to my blocked list.

This is definitely a scam, no doubt about it. I've found the best way to handle these calls is by reporting them straight to the ICO site. I make sure to do that every time I get one of these scam calls. Just head over to ico.org.uk and report it.

Got a recorded voice from someone calling themselves Janice Chan at HMRC. The message was already halfway through by the time my voicemail picked it up. It was one of those threats about a serious legal issue, telling you not to ignore it or else there’d be legal trouble, and some rubbish about “take care” at the end. Total SCAM. I redialled the number and got a bloke who said his name was Eric Foster (can you believe it?). He started going on about some guy called David from an alleged company. I just laughed, told him to go ahead, then quickly ended the call.

Same thing happened to me around 10:35 this morning. If you ring from a blocked number they just cut you off, but when I tried from my mobile, they picked up. I asked to speak with "Dennis Gray" like the voicemail said, and some bloke with an accent said he’d put me through to "her" straight away. When I asked who "her" was, he quickly hung up after realising he'd let something slip. Was really hoping for a laugh with them, but no luck this time.

I didn’t pick up, but they dropped a robotic message on my voicemail, claiming to be from HM Customs and Revenue. They said it was 'urgent' and that I either needed to ring them back or get my solicitor involved. The bit that cracked me up was when they warned me about ‘facing the consequences’ if I didn’t return the call! Classic scare tactic! I bet some folks might actually get worried by that nonsense!
