I got a minor scratch on my vehicle, and this guy called, claiming he was from a compensation group. He told me they already had all my info from my insurer for a whiplash claim. He sounded pretty annoyed when I kept insisting I wasn’t hurt and wasn’t planning on filing anything.

Total rip off - best just ignore or report it to Action Fraud (that’s the UK’s go-to place for fraud and cyber crime reports).

This was the initial message left on my answering machine when I got back from my holiday. They must be ringing numbers randomly because I’m ex directory. I foolishly did call the number (maybe I was a bit jet lagged), but got a message saying it wasn’t accepting calls and to ring back later.

They had an American accent for sure, but it was totally a scam, don’t ignore the warning.

I've just returned from a lovely break only to discover a rather alarming message suggesting I was under investigation for fraud by HMRC. As a pensioner living on a tight budget, it did give me quite a bit of concern. I attempted to return the call, but received a recorded message stating that this number isn’t taking calls and to attempt again later. I’m on the ex-directory list, so if it’s legitimate, they could simply drop me a letter instead of this nonsense! Definitely sounds like a scam to me!

Just got a call from someone pretending to be from HMRC, sounding like they had a faint American accent, warning me about supposed 'tax evasion' issues and urging me to phone back immediately. I’ve passed the details to our local Community Centre so they can warn others, especially older folks like me who might get really worried by these tricks. Definitely don’t bother calling that number. Really glad there’s a site like this to help spot these scam calls. Cheers from a pensioner in North London.

Just like everyone else is saying, got a recorded voice saying it was HMRC and that there was a complaint about me. Told me to call back but I ignored it. Definitely a scam. Best thing is to just hang up and dont bother calling back. If it was actually HMRC, they’d send a letter or come after you properly!

I got a voicemail saying I had to ring this number straight away - said it was HMRC. When I phoned back, some woman with an American accent asked for my name, then started telling me there was a warrant out for my arrest! I asked what for, and she said tax evasion and claiming benefits illegally. I told her I’d never claimed any benefits ever and asked if this was actually HMRC or if it was a scam. Then she just hung up on me!

I got a message earlier from some automated voice saying I needed to ring them back straight away. After having to sort out an unexpected tax payment recently, it really freaked me out at first. Luckily, I looked it up on this site before worrying too much and now I’m glad to see it’s just a scam.

Got a call at around 10 this morning, and they left a voicemail telling me to get in touch with HMRC and not to disregard the call. The voice was really robotic and came across as quite intimidating. I figured it was a scam straight away, so I've blocked the number. If you get this call, my advice is to block it too and definitely don’t call back.

I received a call from this number and on the voicemail it said something about me or my lawyer needing to contact HMRC courthouse straight away and not to ignore it. When I checked the caller ID with 1471, it showed this number as the one calling me. The voice sounded like a computer with an American accent. I didn’t bother calling back because I thought it was dodgy, so I looked it up here. Thanks to everyone who’s shared their experiences, it’s clearly a scam. Can someone tell me if this number can be reported to the police or fraud department?

On the 16th of October 2017, I got a voicemail claiming I was under investigation for dodging taxes and it gave a number supposedly for HMRC to ring back. They insisted I shouldn’t ignore it and needed to get in touch straight away. I called this morning and the person on the line couldn’t explain which taxes I was meant to have dodged. I asked for an official letter explaining the charges instead of giving details over the phone, but they just ended the call on me.

Got a call from 020 3289 9210 this morning at about 9. It was one of those recorded messages, with a robotic voice claiming I, or my solicitor, had to urgently get in touch with them about tax evasion, pretending they were from HMRC. Today a call came through our landline, which is hardly ever used, with someone claiming they or some lawyer needed to get in touch. Got a call this morning around 8.45am from an automated voice that sounded American. It was about me or my solicitor needing to get in touch regarding tax evasion or something like that. Kept repeating the number and saying not to ignore the call. Mentioned H.M.R.C and said it was urgent. I came here right away cos my first thought was that it’s a scam. I can totally see how people who are more vulnerable could easily get frightened by this. There really should be proper measures to stop these annoying calls. Cheers for having this number on your site so I could look it up. I’m pretty sure HMRC and the HM Tribunal don’t work together, plus I’ve never had any complaint like that. Today, my nan got a call from this number, said it was from HMRC about some tax evasion thing. They didn't give a name or any details, and they didn’t know who she was either. It feels like they were just trying to trick her into giving info. When she just said “hello” and didn't say anything more, they quickly hung up. It really scared my nan since she, like a lot of older folks, can't really check online to see if it's a scam. Just after 11:30, I got the same call as earlier today from this number. A man with an Asian or Indian accent said there was a claim made in my name (didn't say which name). I left a voicemail but didn’t bother calling back. The bloke’s accent was really difficult to make out, sounded quite foreign. The whole thing set off warning bells straight away!

I got an automated phone call this morning around 8.43am claiming to be from HM Revenue and Customs, saying I need to get a lawyer because I’m accused of dodging tax and to ring them straight away. I know I have no tax issues, so it really annoyed me. I looked up the number here and loads of others have had the same call. It’s worrying because this could really upset vulnerable people. Is there anything that can be done about these scam calls?

My 80 year old dad got a call from 02032899210 and they left a voicemail saying they were from HMRC, telling him he needed a lawyer because he owed back taxes. Luckily, he wasn’t in when they called. He tried ringing back to tell them it was a wrong number. I told him not to engage with them at all. If anyone else gets a call like this, please report it to your local non emergency police or try to submit a complaint online.

Complete scam, nothing genuine about it.

They’re still calling from the exact same number with the exact same message.

I really wish these scammers would mix up their accents a bit and stop throwing around American words all the time. It’d be a bit more believable if they at least used someone’s name from the house. Honestly, I’d love to just run into one of them face to face.

Around 8:30 in the morning, received a call with an automated voice speaking in an Indian accent. They said they were from HMRC regarding tax evasion and avoidance. Seems like a phishing scam to me.

Just got a phone call from the number 02082899210, sounded all robotic and they said it was HMRC wanting me to ring them back right away. Glad I found this site and saw others had the same thing happen. For sure a scam.

Got a call from this number today saying I had a warrant for tax evasion but they wouldn't share any more info. They also said the call was being recorded by the police. I rang HMRC afterwards and they told me this number is linked to a scam.

I got a really worrying message from this number claiming they'd take legal steps against me! When I called back, the person just cut off straight away, and since then their line has been busy non stop. Seeing all these comments has calmed me down a bit though, otherwise I'd have been anxious for ages.

Got a call today from this number, had one of those robotic messages with an Asian accent saying they were from HMRC! It was on my landline at about 9.15am. Pretty obviously a scam but still a bit unnerving!

On 9th Oct 2017 at about half one in the afternoon, I got a call saying the same things. This time, it was a bloke with an Irish accent. They mentioned HMRC, tax evasion, a lawyer and so on. Proper scary scam it was.

Got a voicemail on our answering machine this morning around 7.45am from a bloke sounding American or Irish, saying it was about tax evasion to HMRC. Told us not to ignore it and to call back. I had a feeling it was a rip-off so looked it up here. Really hope they do something about these dodgy calls. Tried ringing the tax office but it’s impossible to speak to an actual person there.

My dad got a call from this number and it threw him into a right state, thinking he had to ring them back because of some tax evasion warrant. He’s 77 and not well at all. Honestly, it’s awful that folks doing this kind of thing are allowed to carry on.

Some bloke ringing up calling himself Anthony Cooper, telling me there's apparently a warrant for my arrest. He got really uppity, shouting about me not paying my taxes, saying my records show over £5,000 in the bank and that I owe tax on it. I just found it funny and laughed, and he hung up on me. This kind of call needs to be dealt with properly. I reckon plenty of folks would be proper rattled by it.

My phone barely rang as I had the ringer set low, but I caught a voicemail from someone claiming to be the Inland Revenue. They told me not to ignore their message and asked me to ring them back at 02032899210. Bit suspicious if you ask me!

Got a call this morning at about 9.45. Didn’t recognise the number so I just let the voicemail take it. A man with an American accent said he was from HMRC and mentioned I was under investigation for tax fraud and evasion. Seems like a total scam to me, so I deleted the message straight away. Still, it sounds pretty intimidating with all the talk about lawyers - I can imagine some folks might freak out and ring back.

This morning my 96 year old mum got a message on her answerphone saying it was HM Customs and she owed income tax. They told her to ring 02032988210. I called and spoke to a bloke who said his name was Anthony Cooper, sounded like he had an Indian accent. When I asked what it was about, he said she owed income tax and was defrauding the UK government. I asked where he was based and he said 100 Whitehall. I told him I was just down the road and would pop round, then the line went dead. I tried calling back several times but no answer. It’s obvious this is a scam aimed at old people.

Just like the rest, I found the same voicemail on my answer machine. It’s pretty clear to me this is a scam, cos I know if H.M.R.C had any problems with my account they'd get in touch properly first. I’m definitely not responding.

Got a call from some bloke with a weird robotic American accent claiming he was from HMRC. He said there’s a complaint against me and told me to get in touch, or have my solicitor call them. Got a call from the same number earlier today with the usual "Don’t ignore this call, ring back straight away" message. I passed it onto my accountant, who reckons it’s a scam, but she’s going to double-check with HMRC just to be safe.
