I got calls from a firm calling themselves Home Improvement Loans, with two people named Alisha and Robert Dunn calling me multiple times. On Monday 5th January around 9:30am, they rang my mobile saying I’d been approved for a £3,000 loan. The last time they contacted me was the following day, 6th January 2016, at about 5:30pm on my phone. They claimed I had been accepted for £3,000 but needed to make an initial payment of £130 for the first month's security. Then they asked for another £249, saying this was a tax fee which they’d refund once the loan was transferred. Despite making these payments, I never got any money. Later on, they asked for yet another £199, telling me it was for transaction fees and even sent me a test payment of £202 to my account to convince me everything was legit. They insisted the loan would be paid once the £199 was received, but as you can guess, I got nothing. When I phoned to ask about the loan, they kept dodging me and said if I hadn’t gotten the money by the end of business on Tuesday, I should ring back. Of course, there was still no sign of anything. Then suddenly, they said the loan was actually £3,448 instead of £3,000, so to process it, I’d have to pay a further £152 to make it round up to £3,600. That was the final straw and I refused to pay any more. They hung up on me and wouldn’t give me a refund. They asked me to transfer money to an account in the name of HomeOwner, sort code 60-60-06, account number 46163816. The payments I got from them came under names like M Billal and Mizum for £202 and £242. But I had to send these amounts back as tests to the same account, and never got back the loan or any refunds. They claim to be based in London with these numbers: 020 3813 6191 and 020 3289 5238. When I looked the numbers up online, others reported similar stories about fraudulent refunds and lost money from the same company. Their website, homeimprovementloans.org.uk, doesn’t even show up as legit, which made me realise I’d been conned. This scam has left me with nothing in my bank, and I’m struggling to afford food for my child or pay bills. If there’s any way to get my money back, I’d be very grateful.
