Got a call from someone claiming to be from BT, sounded Indian, saying they needed to check my broadband setup. Seemed a bit fishy to me.

This warning is really helpful - these scammers are proper tough nuts and seem to know loads, like exactly who supplies your internet and stuff.

They ramble on with loads of nonsense about some Californian hackers messing with our accounts too!

Best thing to do? Just put the phone down straight away!

Got a call from these lot today and they seemed alright at first, but turns out it was a scam. They were talking about TeamViewer, trying to trick me. Some lady from India, called herself Tracy Smith and gave a BT ID like BT 2481. They told me to download some link on my PC. Basically, they want to take over your computer and control it without you knowing. Stay careful, folks!

Got a call on Friday, 14th July 2017, from a guy with a thick Indian accent claiming to be from BT. He said someone in California was attempting to hack my broadband and use it. The accent made it quite hard to understand him properly. He asked what gadgets I use to get online and which social media sites I frequent, plus the usual things like email and shopping. Felt a bit iffy about whether he was legit and didn’t have time to switch my laptop on - I always turn it off when not using it anyway. He then said he’d ring back the following Monday morning, which he did, but I didn’t pick up. He rang four times after that. I did a 1471 on the number and, after reading other folks’ comments, I’m pretty sure it was a scam. Cheers to everyone for helping me see that!

This dodgy bloke with an Indian accent rang up my mum, pretending to be from BT. He said her internet was at risk of being hacked urgently and she had to do something right away. Mum nearly fell for it, but thankfully she got suspicious when he started asking about her bank balance. Proper nasty scammers they are!
