Got a call saying it was from the Ministry of Justice? Seems funny considering all the budget cuts lately in the UK! They claimed I should be getting £3000 back and that some official would ring me with a cheque. The voice was definitely a young woman reading from some script. I hung up before they could try and scam me or anything dodgy. Don't really see how they were gonna get anything outta me.

Had a call at lunch, looked like it was coming from London with an international dial code. I picked up but stayed silent. Just a couple of seconds passed then they cut off. Surely, if it was a proper person, they’d say something like ‘who's this?’ or similar. Guess not, bit of a fail really.

I received a telephone call today claiming that my bank account had some money owed to me. It struck me as rather familiar, as I had a similar call around three years ago, where they mentioned a solicitor would visit my home to hand over the funds. Got a call earlier from some guy with an Indian accent, called himself Simon Miller. He rang my husband saying there’s an unclaimed cheque for £3,000 and asked him to buy a Steam card from WH Smiths, then call back to chat with a Julie Shaw. We never bought any card and shortly after, the same number called again. I told them we’ve reported them to the fraud cops and hung up straight away.

I got a couple of calls from this number claiming I’m due a backdated payment of £3000. They told me all I need to do is pop into Morrison’s and buy a £150 iTunes voucher. After that, apparently, some company solicitor will visit me with a cheque, and I’m meant to hand over the voucher then. Part of me wants to play along and say I’ve bought the card just to see if someone actually shows up at my door.

I received two calls today from a lady with what I would describe as an eastern European accent, claiming to be from the Ministry of Justice, insisting she had some documents containing details about me. I mentioned that I’m employed within the UK justice system, though I didn’t specify my role. I asked her to send any pertinent information in writing. She then proceeded to request my address, to which I replied that if she truly had information about me, she ought to already know my address-clearly, she didn’t. Her tone shifted abruptly and she accused me of being dishonest. I decided it was best to end the conversation right then.

Just as I was about to answer, the call ended abruptly, but later a voicemail popped up saying the HM Tax Inspector was taking me to court because I hadn’t answered their letters. I checked with the Revenue Office, and they said loads of people have been getting these fake calls. They also told me they never start by phoning people and always follow security protocols first. They advised me to be blunt if I get another one. Not long ago, the call came through again, and I let them know exactly what I thought in language I rarely use.

so, some bloke called eric brown from moj phoned me saying i could get £3000 compo. apparently, all i had to do was put £150 on a card to cover taxes, then wait for this 'solicitor' named julie shaw to come round and verify it before handing over the cheque. the call seemed pretty chilled and polite, but honestly, felt like a total scam from the start. it'd be funny if the police were waiting for julie when she shows up, huh? hope they’ve had a look at this website to spot that these scammers are busted.

Got a call from a woman speaking with a foreign accent, and there was some sort of call centre noise behind her. She asked for my wife by her first name, but when I asked which company she was from, she just hung up straight away. This number keeps ringing me quite often. Somebody rang up saying they were from the Ministry of Justice offering a £3000 refund from the government. They asked if I wanted the money sent by cheque through the post or directly into a bank account if I gave them the details (yeah, as if). I told them to post a cheque instead. They then went on to confirm my address and even mentioned the one they had down. I said nope, that's not my current address, just send it to whatever address the 'government' has on record for me, cheers. Pretty sure it’s a con to check if the address they have is still valid.

I got a call but they didn’t leave any voicemail. When I rang back using a withheld number, a guy with an Indian accent said he was from the UK Ministry of Justice and needed my info before doing anything further. I said no and he just hung up. To check if it was legit, I contacted the actual Ministry of Justice, but they wouldn’t assist and passed me on to Action Fraud. After ages on hold, they also refused to get involved and told me to report the number to my phone provider. I’m pretty certain it’s a scam, but I’m not totally sure.

i rang bt on 0800 800150 trying to check if that number really belonged to the ministry of justice. instead, i ended up speaking to some bt office in calcutta, where an indian guy asked me for my details like name, address, phone, and dob, then flat out said he couldn’t assist me. i tried calling bt once more and got through to their scotland branch, but they just gave me the same cold shoulder. does anyone actually worry about these phone scams?
