Got a call from a woman with an Indian accent saying she was Susam Matthews from BT's IT department, employee number 1062. She told me my internet was hacked and mentioned places like California and Holland. She asked me to verify my IP address, which I didn’t do. Then she wanted me to ring back on 02032893545. Absolutely a scam, don’t trust it!

Today, Monday 9 April, I got a call from a lady who said my internet was hacked and she urgently needed to help me fix it. She claimed she was calling from BT. I asked her to send me an email to prove she was legit, but she said the hacker would be able to see it. Then I asked for a phone number, and she gave me 02032874596. I told her my son would ring back when he came round, but we never did. Luckily, I looked up the number and found this site warning about the scam. Glad I didn’t trust her!

Just after I’d been on the phone sorting out some broadband issues with BT, I got a call from 01582 642 519. Seemed a bit too perfect to just be chance - makes me wonder if someone inside leaked my info! I got a weird vibe from it so I told them I’d ring back later. That’s when they dropped the 0203 287 4596 number. I never bothered ringing it though, as this website flagged it as 'Dangerous'.

Pretty much like the other posts here. Got caught up in some internet hacking thing out in California. Total BT scam, ended up feeling proper mugged.

Some bloke named Alex Mercer rang me up. He gave the same old story that others have mentioned here. Told me to ring back on a number where a Mark Rogers would supposedly answer. Got suspicious, so I rang BT and they confirmed it’s a total scam. Avoid!

I got a call from this number again, and like before, some bloke with an Indian accent said he was ringing from BT, trying to stop a hacker in California from using our internet. When I said it sounded dodgy, he got quite annoyed. I ended up hanging up and called back the number he gave me, 02032874596, to check if he was legit. Predictably, they vouched for him. Then I rang the official BT myself and was told it’s definitely a scam. The number that phoned me was 01952857247 - now it's added to my BT Call Protect block list!

Over the past couple of days, I've had three calls from people claiming they're with BT. The moment I mention I'm going to report them, they just cut the call off! Watch out, these are definitely scams.

This morning my mum got a call from this number, but she instantly realised it wasn’t really BT as they claimed. She jotted down the number, so I looked it up online and found this thread. She then rang BT straight away to report it, and after checking everything, it turned out someone had managed to close her BT account - which is odd coz she’s the only one with the details and she definitely hadn’t done it. If you get a call from this number, make sure you contact the real BT quick and ask them to double-check your account for anything fishy.

I can firmly say that this number reeks of a scam. They purport to be from BT, yet I came perilously close to losing a hefty sum of money. Thankfully, I managed to avoid the trap. Those behind this deceitful operation are nothing short of vile and reprehensible individuals. I sincerely wish that karma catches up with them and they find themselves behind bars for a lengthy stretch.

WARNING Hello everyone, if anyone can help find out who owns this number or where it’s from, please get in touch with me at [email protected]. This number has been linked to scam calls where the person pretends to be from a call centre. They try to trick you into giving away your ID details by saying your account has been used in California, USA. When you answer, you can hear loads of background noise like it’s a busy call centre with many people talking. They slowly gain your trust and convince you to share private info, just like it happened to me. After that, money was taken from my bank account. The caller spoke with a Sri Lankan accent and used English names like Roger, Mark, and Alan Walker. Be careful!

I got asked for the number too, then I looked it up on Google and stumbled across this forum. Honestly, it sounded so real!!!

Beware of this phone number; it's a right dodgy one. Best to give it a miss altogether. Contrary to what the caller claims, they are certainly not from the BT Technical Department. It sounds like a scammer trying to get unauthorised access to your computer. Keep your wits about you!

I had a very similar experience recently. A woman with an Indian or Asian accent named Alina rang me up claiming her BT number was BT0814. She said someone called Mr Crawl from Mountain Ridge, California was using my IP address, and that she was part of the BT Technical Support team based in Newgate Street, London. I told her I was tied up and would ring her back later. Afterwards, I contacted BT on 150 and they confirmed they hadn’t contacted me since September 17 and suspected it was a scam. When I phoned Alina back on 02032874596, she said I must have spoken to BT Billing, not Tech Support. Despite her insistence it wasn’t a scam, I wasn’t convinced. Honestly, watch out for these annoying calls!

I got a call earlier from a bloke claiming to be from BT IT, telling me that some person out in California was using my IP address. He told me to go online and search my IP number. When I asked where he was ringing from, he said 81 Newgate Street, London and gave the name Harry Wilson, but his accent sounded Asian. He didn’t have any security info or my BT reference either. So, I asked for a contact number and called back, but the guy who answered was also Asian and sounded quite defensive, not very helpful at all. Honestly, it felt like a total scam.

Got a call supposedly from BT's tech team, sounded just like the others mentioned here. Some lady with a strong Asian accent was saying her name was Susan Matthews, giving out a BT ID - something like 1062 did 1471 or similar. She told me someone in California was using my IP address, which I knew was a load of rubbish. The phone number that popped up was 0018749658213.

Got a call earlier at 10:40 from a bloke with an Asian accent saying he was with BT security. He claimed that someone else was using my IP address and asked me to install TeamViewer on my computer. He even had a fake BT website ready for the download. Turns out this number, 01872 749862, is involved too. I've reported it straight to BT. Definitely a scam.

Similar thing happened to me, they claimed to be from BT and said my IP address had been accessed out in California. They started asking about my Amazon account, then urged me to check my bank details. That's when I realised something was off. I told the guy I wasn’t comfortable and he said he’d give me the BT helpline. When I called, no one picked up at BT, so I knew it was dodgy and ended the call. Just a heads up, my missus didn’t go through the usual security stuff like providing the BT reference number, which I thought she had done. Be cautious out there.

Just got a ring from someone named Jenny Wilson claiming to be from BT Broadband IT support. She said, much like others have mentioned, that my IP address is being used by someone else. I wrote down what she told me and then passed it on to Action Fraud, which is the official police body handling these sorts of scams. Honestly, the easiest way to deal with this is to report it straight online. She gave me a number, 020 3287 4596, and a BT ID which was 1044.

Got a call from a number saying it was BT, telling me my IP address was somehow being used by someone in Mountain Ridge, California or somewhere like that. They gave me an IP address to check, and the details matched up, which was a bit worrying. But the thing is, the number they gave for me wasn't my actual IP. Definitely not BT calling, cos if they were, they’d know my name and BT account info right away. I asked them to confirm it, and of course, they couldn’t. Total scam, in my opinion.

Got a call from some man with a strong Asian accent telling me my computer was at risk of being hacked from somewhere in California. When I asked for a number, he gave me one which I rang back from another phone. An Asian person answered saying "BT". They had no clue about my name or where I live - clearly, just another dodgy scam.

Just got a call from someone claiming to be from BT's IT team, saying there was an issue with our IP address being used out of California last night. The caller wanted me to install some free software on my PC. She gave her name as Susan Matthews and told me to call her back on 020 3287 4596. I hung up and tried that number but it was busy. Following advice from B Jacobson, I dialled 1471 and got a different number, 01726 395628, which I might report too. Feels like a total scam, so I won’t be engaging with them any further.

So this bloke called me with a really thick Indian accent, claiming his name was Mark Rogers. He told me he was ringing from BT, saying someone was using my internet address all the way out in California. Said he was with BT support or something. When I asked him how I could verify he was legit, he gave me some BT reference number and this phone number to call back. I ended up ringing BT myself, and they told me that the reference number meant nothing and that it was absolutely a scam.

Some bloke called me with a really strong Indian accent, claiming his name was "Mark Rogers". He said he was ringing from BT and that someone was using my internet at an address in California. He kept saying he was part of BT support. I asked him how I could trust he was legit, and he gave me a "BT reference number" along with the phone number. So I rang BT myself, and they told me the reference number meant nothing and it was a total scam. Definitely dodgy.
