We've had dodgy scams a while back so we’re a bit more cautious now. Later that night, I decided to call the number back, it was past midnight. If it was a genuine business, surely they’d have a proper voicemail saying who they are and that they’re closed or something, but it just went straight to a generic answering machine. I was after a £10,000 startup loan for my new business and was told I was eligible just by giving my bank account, sort code, and date of birth. They said I had to buy a u-kash voucher to prove I could afford the £200 monthly repayments. I felt off about having to pay money up front to get money, so I asked for more details. They insisted I only needed to show proof of buying the voucher before any cash would be sent. After checking the voucher online, I found out that the “proof” they wanted was actually all someone needs to steal the money. I also found warnings from local police about this exact scam using vouchers. These people not only want to scam your cash but also grab your info for identity theft. Don’t trust calls from this number! Luckily I didn’t pay anything, but even so, they now have some of my personal details which they might misuse.
