Got a call from someone claiming to be from BT offering a 35% discount 'cos I apparently make a lot of local calls. When they asked what my initials meant and which bank I use, I didn’t give any more details. Asked them to just put the discount through or send me confirmation by post.

Received a call earlier today from someone masquerading as BT. The accent and poor grasp of English led me to suspect it was an Indian call centre. Eventually, they tried to fish for my banking information, claiming that I was entitled to a refund due to my excessive phone usage. It’s quite alarming, really, and I can’t help but think of those who might fall prey to such scams. BT really ought to take action and blacklist this number.

Absolutely dodgy! I received a phone call today (12th November 2016) from a call centre based in London. The bloke on the other end introduced himself as David John. The moment I started probing him with questions, he hung up on me without a second thought. Very suspicious behaviour!

I received a rather dubious call today from a chap claiming to be with Windows, insisting that my computer had been compromised. I was tucked up in bed, having just finished a late shift, so I asked if he could provide a number for me to ring him back at a more convenient time. He introduced himself as David Johnson, which I found rather amusing considering he seemed more of Asian or Indian descent. I've encountered these kinds of calls before, so I'm anticipating more to come my way. One time, they even had the audacity to say they'd spoken to my husband - I queried what he'd said since he’d actually popped out before I got back home. (For context, my husband passed away fifteen years ago, so I think it's safe to say there was no conversation happening there.) It’s all a ruse, really. Go on, have a laugh and keep them chatting; while they're occupied with you, they won't be scamming someone else. Wishing you all a lovely festive season!

I just received a call from someone claiming to be from the "Microsoft team". Curiosity got the better of me, so I asked for a callback number and was quite taken aback when they actually provided one! Naturally, I rang the number back, only to be instructed to turn on my computer to "fix a critical issue". I’ve encountered these sorts of calls a handful of times before and I must confess, I do find it rather entertaining to throw in some daft questions! However, what troubles me is the apparent lack of action from Microsoft or even the police. Is there a specific reason behind this?

I've received a fair few calls from this number, as well as from 01143601694. They seem rather persistent, don't they?

Earlier today, at around 9:15 in the morning, I received a rather dubious phone call from a young woman of Asian descent claiming to represent Microsoft. She asserted that my computer had been compromised. I requested a callback number, and she provided me with this one. Upon revealing that I use an Apple device, she immediately transferred me to a colleague, who also seemed to have an Asian background but went by the name of Peter Frank. He started to inform me that the source of the breach was through Adobe Flash Player and insisted that I sit in front of my computer. I expressed my distrust of unsolicited callers and said I would consult my IT expert instead. He grew increasingly persistent as I refused to cooperate, so I ended the call. Afterward, I checked the number on this site and discovered that others had encountered the same scenario. It seems they are nothing but scammers-beware of their tactics!

I’ve just had a rather peculiar phone call from a gentleman who had quite a strong Indian accent. He claimed to be ringing from Microsoft and requested that I enter a sequence of numbers into what he described as "Microsoft boxes." I was immediately on guard, as one would be! Although he sounded quite persuasive, I’ve had a run-in with a Norton-related scam in the past, so I pushed for more proof of his identity. He then provided me with a phone number to verify his claims.

I just received a rather dubious phone call from this number. They were fishing for my credit card information! Be very cautious and don’t share anything with them. They’ll instruct you to enter various commands on your computer, claiming they need remote access, all while trying to scare you with tales of Trojans and errors. I regretfully fell into the trap and allowed them access to my device. After realising my folly, I promptly contacted the authorities; they advised me to alert my bank, especially if you handle any online transactions, and to consider reporting this incident. Additionally, it’s wise to check in with any important accounts you may have. I was told to seek help from a tech professional and inform them of the whole saga. Learn from my error, folks! The chap who called himself 'Michael Jones' mentioned he was from Microsoft support, and I noted a distinct Indian accent.

A young lady called claiming to be from Microsoft. I wanted to know her name, phone number, and what her aim was with the call. I also questioned why she was fibbing about this number supposedly being linked to her Microsoft files - there’s no computer here! She ended the call abruptly, but at least I got her number.

I recently received a call from some individuals claiming to be from Microsoft. Given that I've nearly fallen for such a ruse in the past, I was rather wary. I requested the registration number of my computer, and the figure they provided just didn't add up - seemed entirely fabricated, if you ask me. When I pressed for their contact number, they handed me this one, which I decided to investigate. As expected, it appears to be a scam. I would highly advise anyone to simply say they don't own a computer if these chaps give you a ring in the future.

I had a rather alarming experience recently. A group of hackers, masquerading as Microsoft representatives, incessantly called me, claiming they would seize control of my laptop. This bloke first said his name was David Melior, then suddenly changed it to Justin Miller, saying he’d been transferred or something. The accent didn’t at all match either name. He gave me some ‘computer ID number’ and told me to check it by pressing control dot or something. He claimed my PC was riddled with terrible viruses and warned if I didn’t help, it’d stop working. I managed to get his number 02032869239, but I never bothered calling him back.

Total scam. The guy was super pushy and started threatening me, saying they’d block my PC. When I asked how they even got my number, considering I bought my laptop in Canada, he went off saying he’d come all the way to Toronto to find where I live. He pretended to be from Microsoft’s main office. I’m definitely gonna report this to the cops.

I received a rather alarming call from someone identifying themselves as "Charlie Belford" from "Microsoft." This individual made some rather bold threats, insisting that my computer would be blocked if I didn’t comply and switch it on - quite strange, considering it was allegedly ‘hacked’ while being switched off. He repeatedly mentioned the number 0203286 and promptly rang me back the moment I suggested I’d return the call later. His tone turned quite aggressive when I mentioned that I would contact Microsoft directly to inquire about him…

Received a rather peculiar phone call today, with a gentleman claiming to be from Microsoft. He asserted that my computer had been compromised by someone using my IP address. I decided to have a bit of fun and told him I didn’t even possess an IP. His response was quite entertaining-he insisted that deceit won’t get me out of it and that I’d be in serious hot water! Naturally, I kept him on the line for a while, watching as he became increasingly perplexed. When he asked me to sit at my computer, I mentioned it was tucked away in a cupboard. I cheekily requested his number so I could ring him back once I’d retrieved my computer, and he provided me with 02032869239. Don’t worry, I won’t be returning his call! What a classic SCAM! His final remark was, “I’ll ring you again tomorrow.” Can’t wait for round two, as I'll be ready to give this little con artist a right runaround!

I received a rather dubious phone call from a gentleman of Asian descent, purporting to be a representative of Microsoft. He asserted that my computer was riddled with a significant virus. As he outlined a series of alarming issues, he offered to rectify them for a fee of £149. When I began the payment process, he insisted on using Western Union and bizarrely instructed me to label the transaction as personal rather than associated with Microsoft. Quite peculiar, I thought. Things took a turn for the worse when my bank blocked the transaction; the chap on the line became quite aggressive and urged me to speak with my bank. That’s when I discovered they were attempting to bill me over £600! To make matters worse, the payment was to be sent to Colombia. I urge everyone to steer clear of these con artists. IT’S A MAJOR SCAM! I genuinely hope this warning assists someone in avoiding being swindled.

Today, my dad received a rather alarming phone call from someone purporting to be from Microsoft. They claimed his computer had been compromised and persuaded him that he needed to grant them access to our PC to rectify the issue. Unfortunately, he was led to believe this was a legitimate call, so he allowed them in. To our horror, they then seized control of the computer, demanding a staggering £419 to 'resolve' the situation. After we reached out to the real Microsoft, they assured us that they would never operate in such a manner and offered to sort the issue for £149 instead. We promptly told those scammers where to shove it! I ended up reinstalling Windows for my dad, and thankfully, his computer is now running beautifully.

Received a call today from a chap of Asian descent insisting he needed to shut down my computer unless I complied with some request. I assured him I’d get back to him if it turned out to be important, but after a bit of snooping on the number, I figured out it was just another scam. It’s quite uncommon for someone to ring you up to report an issue; usually, it's the other way round-you’re the one doing the ringing!

Just like many others, I received a call about some supposed 'malware' infecting my computer, and they even had my address, which is rather unsettling. Had a rather alarming experience this evening. Someone called claiming that my device was infected with some serious viruses and that I'd been hacked. They persuaded me to share my screen, and while they fiddled around, they demanded £250 to fix the supposed issues. I flat out refused, but then things took a turn for the worse-they accessed my photos and deleted some really cherished memories. In a shocking twist, they wanted £16 to restore them. When I provided details for a Western Union transfer, I ended up losing £257. The chap on the line became quite aggressive, sounding half cut and utterly vile. Just a heads up to others, be very cautious!

This morning, I received two phone calls purporting to be from Microsoft, both originating from 01642 878714. I found it rather odd that I couldn't make incoming calls during this time. On the second call, I inquired about the caller’s number, which he claimed was 02032869239. I decided to ring that number shortly after, and the same chap picked up saying, "Microsoft". His demeanour was quite confrontational, insisting that my computer was compromised with a virus and it was my duty to permit him to carry out repairs. I ended the conversation right then. Coincidentally, I’d been facing a few issues with my laptop, which were resolved rather promptly after contacting the BT Helpline. Cheers, Benji from Stourbridge

Blimey, we had a similar experience just recently! This number, 0019898289913, gave us a bell, and then they provided 02032869239 as the return contact. The odd thing is, we don’t even deal with Microsoft in our workplace! Utter nonsense! If you do happen to answer, I’d suggest whispering so he has to crank up his volume. Then, when he’s straining to hear, give him a right earful about where he can go! Maybe it’ll give him a taste of his own medicine for trying to pull a fast one.

An Asian gentleman claimed to be affiliated with Microsoft and requested permission to connect to my computer, stating he needed to halt a potential threat attempting to infiltrate it with harmful content. I recently had quite the amusing chat with these characters! They certainly know how to make a convincing pitch! Just a heads up, Microsoft would never reach out in this manner. Keep your wits about you, as these aren't the friendliest of sorts! We like to think we're savvy, but we fell for it this time!

I've just experienced the very same situation. This bloke was insisting that my computer was being compromised and demanded access to sort it out. He claimed to be calling from Leicester. As I was on the line, I decided to do a quick search on the number and discovered numerous alerts regarding scams. Once I mentioned that I was aware of the warnings, he abruptly hung up. Sounds a bit suspicious, don't you think?

My mum got a call from someone pretending to be from Microsoft, saying her PC needed fixing. The guy said his name was Ted Wilson but the call came from India, which was pretty obvious. She told him she was on the TPS and shouldn't be called, but he kept going. In the end, he backed off when she mentioned involving the police. I rang the number he gave her and it was definitely a sketchy call centre, but they just hung up on me. Totally a scam - watch out and don’t get caught!

got a call from an asian lady who somehow knew about a crash i’d been in. she kept talking about filing a compensation claim that would supposedly pay out in 6-8 weeks. something didn’t feel right so i just ended the call. later i looked it up on google and found loads of others who’d been tricked by the same thing. best thing is to just hang up as soon as you get a call like that.

I've had a rather unsettling experience with what appears to be a dubious operation masquerading as a Windows support service, likely run by individuals from Asia. They attempted to coerce me into parting with my money after gaining access to my computer, by locking it with a password that I might have been able to decipher via an online search. The so-called 'errors' and 'warnings' they cited were nothing more than run-of-the-mill system logs-absolutely typical for any Windows machine, rather than signs of some malicious virus or hacking attempt. If you're interested in the specifics, there's quite a revealing piece on the UK police website regarding these scams: http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/victims-still-being-targeted-by-computer-software-service-fraud-may14. It’s worth a read to arm yourself against such cons!

Beware of these boiler-room scammers from Asia claiming they’re offering help for Windows problems. If you let them access your PC, they’ll lock it with a password and demand cash to unlock it. Sometimes you can find that password online by searching, so don’t panic straight away. Everything they say about hackers or viruses causing errors is nonsense - it’s just normal Windows logs full of warnings and errors that happen all the time. They just want to trick you into paying.

Last week, I received an intriguing phone call from this number, suggesting that our computer was harbouring a virus, and that a catastrophic failure was imminent within two months. Curiosity piqued, I probed for more information, and they claimed to represent Microsoft, even supplying a callback number for validation. I found it rather odd since my daughter and son-in-law are both employed by Microsoft, and they hadn’t alerted us to any issues. Strangely enough, just as I raised this point, the line went completely silent!

It's that classic scam from an Indian call centre yet again, masquerading as Microsoft support with a faked caller ID. They’re trying to dupe unsuspecting folks into granting them remote access to their computers, which is just a ruse to install dodgy software and extort money from you. The best course of action? Either end the call or, if you're in the mood for a bit of mischief, lead them on for a laugh-just make sure you ignore any of their so-called 'instructions'. Stay savvy!

What a right nuisance this is! Clearly, it’s one of those dodgy schemes, but if you’re in the mood for a bit of banter, why not have a chuckle and keep them on the line for a spot? I’ve got to admit, these calls are quite the antidote to my hectic work life. That said, it's crucial to remember that any genuine company won't ever ring you out of the blue about your computer unless you’ve reached out first. And definitely don’t even think about sharing any details about your machine! It’s not likely to be any legitimate outfit like Microsoft. Just have a bit of fun with them to pass the time, but stay savvy!

This number has been ringing my phone incessantly for several days now. They're really quite relentless, claiming to be from a tech support outfit. They insist that I should hop on my computer immediately because apparently, there's a virus lurking about. When I requested the caller's name, he had a bit of an accent-could be Asian or perhaps Nigerian. He introduced himself as Peter Johnson from 247 Leicester, but when I asked where exactly he was calling from, the details got rather murky. "Peter Johnson," I scoff-sounds a bit fishy to me!

I received a rather peculiar call earlier today. The caller inquired whether I was the rightful owner of my number, to which I replied that I wasn't, and that I was with Virgin. They then proceeded to inform me that my Windows had been compromised. Quite amusing, considering I’m a proud Mac user! The tactic I’ve found most effective against such nuisances is to ask them to hold for a moment, then simply place the phone down on the side and leave it there. When I return about five minutes later, they’re always disconnected. So far, it appears they haven’t bothered to ring back, which is a blessing!

I've received four calls from this number now. Given my profession as a security investigator, I took it upon myself to play along this time. Essentially, they try to trick you into downloading their dodgy software onto your computer, after which they demand payment or gain control over your machine.

I have a strong suspicion they’re operating out of India, but when challenged, they claim to be situated at 207 Mentorn Road in Leicester. The phoney website they direct you to conveniently has connections to India as well.

Just yesterday, on the 10th of July, I received two rather similar phone calls from a gentleman with an Asian accent. The first call came through at 5 in the evening, followed by another around 6, both purporting to be from Microsoft Windows. During the initial conversation, I told him he was chatting nonsense and promptly disconnected. By the second attempt, I simply cut him off without a word. Previously, I've even pretended to lack a computer entirely, and they tend to hang up straight away. Received a couple of calls from this number; one yesterday and another today. The first time, when I confronted them about being scammers, they had the audacity to suggest they might send someone to my address. Today, when I tried to call back, they didn’t waste a second before hanging up. Like many others have pointed out, it's really best to just ignore these sorts of nuisances. However, I do worry they might be preying on vulnerable, older individuals. Should we consider reporting this to the authorities? It might be wise. Just like many others on this site, I received a call a short while ago at precisely 3:10pm. The caller stated, "We’ve detected an issue with your computer." My father, who picked up the phone, had quite the entertaining reaction! It truly annoys me to ponder how these scammers will persistently ring around until they find someone naive enough to fall for their tricks and drain their savings. If so many people have flagged this number, why on earth aren’t they being tracked down and dealt with? Ideally, these dishonest individuals should be behind bars or, better yet, sent packing far away!

Both times, it was a man with an Asian accent claiming to represent Windows security, saying they had noted some error alerts coming from my computer.
