Someone called pretending to be from HMRC saying I owed £1900 and if I didn’t pay, they would take away everything, like my passport and driving licence. They also mentioned a fine that could go up to £27000. The bloke had an accent that sounded Bangladeshi.

Just had a ring from someone called ‘Amy’. I asked if she was Bangladeshi, but she claimed she was Indian instead. When I asked which city or state, she said she wasn’t allowed to share that. I told her I’ve never met an Amy from India before. Then I asked if she was married and how long, she said yes, for about 5 years. She mentioned her supervisor would be calling me next. Spent a good 7 minutes messing with these scam artists, hope it wasted their time.

FURTHER EDUCATION CENTRE - no idea why they rang me, maybe my manager's worried about how I spell! BLOCKED.

There was a long pause before the caller finally spoke, sounded like maybe South Asian but with an American accent. He claimed he was ringing about further education courses because I’d shown some interest. Bit odd really, considering I’ve got three degrees and finished the last one close to 40 years back.

I must express my utter disbelief regarding this outfit; it’s a complete swindle! I actually took the initiative to contact Citibank directly, given that they purportedly have a subsidiary called Citi Financial. However, it turns out that Citi Financial European PLC isn’t the same as what one might expect from Citi Financial. The person on the line assured me that no reputable arm of Citibank or any of its affiliated entities would ever request something as dubious as a sizeable Ukash voucher as a show of 'good faith'. It’s clearly a ruse! When I relayed this to a representative from Citi Financial who called me back about the voucher, they presented a firm reference number and other details, but upon closer inspection, it became apparent that they simply pinched that information from the Citibank website. It’s all far too fishy! This entire situation is unequivocally a scam, which is supported by several facts: 1) Direct confirmation from Citibank; 2) The apparent mismatch in naming as it relates to Citibank’s affiliates; 3) An 08 number should be used, according to Citibank’s own guidelines; 4) No account is required; and 5) The request is for Ukash cash rather than a debit/credit card or PayPal! Please, I implore you not to fall for this trickery. They might be able to spin a charming yarn, but when it comes to delivering, they’re all talk and no action. Your money will vanish, and you’ll be left with nothing! Best, Kay.

We received a call from them too; the chap claimed we had to pay a cash voucher of £115 to secure our loan. The problem is we couldn't uncover a single piece of information regarding this company, so it's clear this was definitely a scam.
