11 yearsI had an unexpected call from a chap named Ben Parker who claimed to have a cheque amounting to £3,279 related to my injury claim. He mentioned that a gentleman named John Smith would be swinging by in about an hour to deliver it - using the contact number 07419256661. However, he insisted that I would need to present my passport and driving licence, and also somehow pay £220 for case expenses and medical evaluations that solicitor Michael Bowin (or perhaps Gowin?) had supposedly covered personally. He assured me that the cheque was issued by the UK government court office, but he insisted I couldn’t obtain it until I paid that £220. I pointed out that typically, all solicitor fees are deducted from the total award before any cheques are issued to claimants, but he was adamant that the government had altered their procedures, which did not seem plausible to me. I told him I was currently on my laptop investigating the relevant information on the UK government's Courts and Justice website. At that point, the line abruptly went dead. I tried redialling the number, hoping to reach someone, but I got no response. They insist that the claim is being processed by the government, and once the cheque is cleared, we would then owe them 25% of the total amount. The delivery chap is apparently one Mr John Clark, with the caller identifying himself as Peter Tinchpin.
