Today, I got a call from this number saying they were from Microsoft’s main office in Glasgow. They told me my computer was infected and offered to fix the problem for me. I told them I’d contact Microsoft directly before doing anything. I recognise this scam as I’ve heard about it before. The guy on the phone, who said his name was Mark, sounded Indian.

I received a call from this number today, and the chap on the other end had a distinctly Indian accent, attempting to pull off the classic Microsoft ruse. I decided to have a bit of fun with him, informing him I owned five computers, none of which were powered on, and queried how he’d managed to ascertain which one was supposedly compromised. He went on to claim that they were likely all affected. I mentioned that I’d reach out to my software engineer mate to have a look at it, and asked for his details. He provided the name Mike Manders, along with the phone number, claiming to be based in Glasgow. Best to steer clear of this one, as it’s clearly a scam, and the discrepancies in his alleged location and the number itself raise major red flags.
