Today I got a call from a bloke using the number 01589996888, claiming he was from the government. He said I was gonna get 8000 quid because I’m a “good citizen” or something. Then he told me to ring up another number, 02032390549, and mention a code, ab125. Seems fishy if you ask me.

I had a call from a man with quite a strong African accent, saying he was from the UK government's grants department. I knew no such department was real, so I said that straight away. We ended up going back and forth like kids arguing about whether it exists or not - but at the end of the day, it’s his phone bill! Honestly, I’m amazed at how stubborn these people are, arguing even when it’s clear you’re not falling for it. Lately, I’ve had loads of scam calls, mostly about internet issues. I’m starting to get really fed up with it all.

Received a call from an Asian bloke who hurriedly muttered something about working for the Department of Work and Pensions and claimed I’d bagged an £8000 grant. Immediately sussed it was a scam, especially with all these dodgy calls we’ve been getting lately. Then he went quiet for a good few minutes like he was waiting for me to respond, but then suddenly switched to a London accent and called me a f##king B#tch just to check if I was still listening. I hung up right away and told the rest of my family to watch out for it.

Got a call from a lady with an Asian accent who gave the name Susan Smith. She said we needed to speak to Ross Taylor at 02032395352 about an £8,000 Government Grant. Total scam, don’t believe it!

I got a call from a code RS114 telling me to call right away on either 02032395352 or 02032872050 saying I could claim £8000 for being a good citizen. An Asian bloke asked for my address, I gave him 330 High Holborn in London. They asked if I wanted cash or a cheque, so I just said cheque and played along with it!

I just got a ring from someone claiming to be from the Government Grants Department using the number 002389001076. They said I could get £8000 because I’m a law-abiding citizen who pays taxes. They said I could take the money either as cash or a cheque. When I asked for their address, the caller quickly rattled off some place in Holborn, London with a postcode, but I didn’t bother listening and hung up straight away.

My little girl just got a call like this too, saying she won some £8000 grant. She has special needs and ended up giving them our address, now she's so scared to stay home. What can we do about this? I’m absolutely livid with how my daughter has been treated, it’s just shocking.

Got the same scam call, promises of £8000 and all that. I asked to speak with a manager to find out how they got my number, then it all went a bit quiet before I was hit with some rude comments like I'll ring when I want and as often as I like. They even dropped some swear words. Honestly, there should be stricter rules to stop these calls. All I wanted was them to take my number off their list. They didn’t like that I looked them up on Google during the call and told them I knew it was a scam.

Just like before, I said I was 87 and didn’t hear well (which isn’t true) and kept asking him to say it again. When he mentioned the special code, I said my pen wasn’t working and asked him to wait while I grabbed another. I then went off to make a brew. When I got back, he was still on the line and repeated the code, but I told him I needed to feed my cat. Strange thing is, he’d disappeared by the time I returned.

Got a call from an Asian bloke. As he spoke, I looked up the Government Grants Dept online and found this page. Told him he was running a scam, and he confessed. Asked him why he was doing it. He said it was because of stuff the British had done wrong long ago. I said yeah, Britain’s made mistakes, but it’s pointless to take it out on me now. He understood and ended up wishing me a good day.

Some bloke with an Asian accent, called K###an Q###um from Leicester, rang me up saying he'd give me £8000 for being a good citizen. Asked straight off for my bank details. I just laughed and told him to jog on. Then he went on about shagging my mum last night (she's been dead for ages) and claimed he's my dad. Wish these muppets would stop wasting my time. Anyway, he's blocked now.

Got a call from some bloke with an Asian accent who said his name was K###an Q###um from Leicester. He was trying to get me to hand over my bank info, promising £8000 for being a “good citizen.” I wasn't having it. Told him to get lost, and he ended up spouting rubbish about having slept with my mum last night (she’s been gone for 5 years), plus some nonsense about being my dad. These tossers need to learn to piss off. Blocked him straight away.

Got a call from an Asian guy saying I was being given a government grant of £8000 for being a good citizen. He said the cash was mine to use however I liked, just not for anything illegal. He gave me some 'unique' code DV678 and told me to call 0203 2391126 right away, using that code. He made me repeat the code and number to check I had it right but got annoyed when I said I couldn’t call then because I was on my way to work. He kept asking why I couldn’t call ‘now’ and when I said my husband would handle it and call them later, he just hung up.

They called me about some kind of UK government grant for respectable folks needing extra cash to clear bills or make changes to their homes, or just to spend on essentials. Having been in government work for quite a while, I thought maybe Brexit had somehow opened up some new financial opportunities, instead of the usual negativity we hear from the chancellor and his lot. I told the caller that I liked the idea but, in my experience, the government doesn’t just hand out money to hopeless cases unless it’s for foreign aid. She must have agreed because the call was cut off quite suddenly.

This mornin, I got a call from a bloke with a strong Nordic accent, sayin he’d give me £8000 for being a good citizen. When I asked for my name or any sort of proof it wasn’t a scam, he just ended the call. The reference code he gave was LW517.

Just like the rest, got a call at 2:50pm saying I could claim £8000 for being a model citizen. Weirdly, the bloke said I wasn’t allowed to use the cash on anything dodgy like gambling??!! He told me to ring 0203 2395352 straight away and mention ref PT 221. I just played along but at the end asked who he thought he was talking to? Thought he’d know the name of this 'perfect citizen' with £8000 to claim. He got annoyed and told me to ring the number again, saying he couldn’t see my personal info for security reasons. Total scam!!!

Got a call from a lady with an Asian accent today claiming I could get £8000 just for being a 'good citizen', paying bills on time, not being bankrupt, that sort of thing. She told me to ring 0203 2391272 and gave me an ID to mention. Looked up the number and found this site. Looks like a total scam, especially after reading these comments. Makes me wonder how they even make a profit from this. Didn't reply to them at all. It's definitely too good to be real!

Comments on 26.05.2016. Just few minutes back, the exact same thing happened to me. Really glad I stumbled across these comments online. They gave me a code and told me to ring the finance dept of the UK grant council to claim £8,000 grant. The phone number was 02032390675. Sounded way too good to be true.

The number 0203 239 1272 is actually a SIP number, meaning it’s an internet based number but it can be forwarded to a costly premium rate line. That’s how they manage to take your cash.

Got a call the other day from a bloke with an Asian accent saying I’d been picked for a free grant from the British Government that I could use on anything I wanted. He gave me a grant ID and a phone number to ring. When I called, a woman called Florence Priory answered and told me I’d get the grant but only if I paid her £210 first. Honestly, I can’t see the government doing things like this. How do these scammers even get away with it?

Got a call saying I could apply for some grant from the UK government grants office in London. I asked them to post it as a cheque, they gave me a number to ring with a reference code. Got a call from someone claiming I could get a grant from some UK government grants office in London. I asked them to post me a cheque but they gave me a phone number to ring with a reference number. Tried to call - the number 0203 039 5352 doesn’t even seem to be real. The person on the phone claimed her name was Stacey, but her accent was definitely Indian. Felt off to me.

Pretty much the same as others - got a call about free financial aid from the government, £8,000 grant! Rang back on 02032872192 but couldn’t get through, feels like they might’ve been caught out? When I asked where he was located, the guy said High Holborn. The number he rang me from was 0002389001076.

I got a call like that saying I was getting an £8000 grant, I just let the person ramble on then hung up. I instantly felt it was dodgy so I googled it and came across this page, and yup, it confirmed my thoughts. This sort of thing shouldn't be allowed, it really needs to be shut down.

Just got a call from a guy with an Indian American accent who said he’s with the British government. He claimed I was picked for an £8000 payout because of some supposed criminal record. Didn’t buy it at all. He mentioned someone named Florence Perrie would deliver the cheque and told me to ring 02032872192 with a reference ID ga7722 to claim this gov grant. I quickly looked up the number here and it all seems sketchy. No way I’m ringing that number - it’s got scam written all over it!

Got a call from the same Indian bloke about some £8000 present cause I supposedly had no criminal records. I asked him which department he was working for and he said some British government office. Then I requested the address so I could look it up on Google, that’s when he started laughing and just ended the call. Never got the chance to catch his number.

I just got a call from a woman with an Indian accent, and honestly, I struggled to catch what she was saying. She mentioned some £8000 good citizen grant but wanted me to pay a one-time fee of £250 first. Total rubbish. I've always heard that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Please be careful and don't fall for this scam.

Definitely a scam. The person on the phone spoke with a rehearsed accent and sounded like they were reading from a script. I spent about 10 minutes pretending to be someone more and more confused, then hinted he might not be legit. He started calling me horrible names, and after I ended the call, he rang again and carried on abusing my husband. Feels like they were annoyed at wasting their time. This kind of thing could be really harmful to vulnerable people.

Just like many others who might get scammed, i told Ben thanks and said it was a bit sad he had to be stuck with that kinda work. Told him maybe he should try doing something good for charity instead. Then he just hung up.

Got a call today from the same scam, so I played along a bit and rang back 0203 287 2192. An Indian lady picked up and asked for my activation code AL525! When I told her it was a scam, she started abusing me, calling me all sorts of nasty names. Lovely! So I gave her a taste of her own medicine by huffing into a whistle I keep near the phone - probably shattered her ears. Lately, these scam calls have been relentless!

Just got a call from these rude people again, seem to think I live in Nigeria and keep ringing me non stop whenever I hang up. The funny thing is, I was born in Bristol lol. I handed the phone over to my cousin and he got all their abuse, which was actually just aimed at himself. Honestly, these idiots need to buzz off. I had a call just like this and played along with the guy, thinking I’d ring the police straight after. I did contact them, and they advised reaching out to Action Fraud too since they handle these international scam cases. We’ve also shared info about it on our website, Facebook, and Twitter. Most of us are aware it’s a scam, but loads of others won’t be, so please spread the word and watch out for mates who might fall for it. These scams are targeted at the most vulnerable, not people like us.

Got a call earlier claiming I was due £8000 from the government. I couldn’t help but laugh and said, “Isn’t it usually the other way around, government taking money, not handing it out?” Once we started asking more questions, the guy got all offended, telling us we were being disrespectful because he was some senior officer.
