A lady rang me, asking if I wanted to renew the warranty on my washing machine, something about aftercare. I said no thanks and then decided to look it up online. Turns out the company is no longer around and was located in West Sussex. I also found out that the Financial Mail on Sunday had mentioned them regarding some Sky warranty sales, which sounds dodgy.

I received a rather odd call today from a lady I’ve never met before, inquiring about my washing machine. She tried to tempt me into purchasing an extended warranty and suggested we could sort everything out right then and there over the phone. That raised all sorts of alarm bells for me! It seems pretty clear this is one of those dodgy scams.

I had a call from a woman who said she was with "AST, handling warranties for washing machines". I’d just swapped out mine this week after the manufacturer said it wasn’t under warranty anymore, even tho it’s just 3 years old. So, I got really curious when she suggested it might actually have been covered. When I pressed for info on how to claim for the old machine, she quickly didn’t want to continue and told me to get in touch with the manufacturer because they only do new policies. Could easily fool someone in the same situation - watch out for this one!

Got a call from someone saying they were with AST, offering extended warranty cover for my washing machine once the manufacturer's expired. They didn't know the brand of my machine but insisted the warranty was nearly up. They wanted me to pay £66 per year over 3 years, totalling £198. I just said "no thanks" and ended the call. Later on, I looked into it and found out my machine actually has a 5-year warranty and is less than 3 years old. Honestly, watch out for these dodgy scams, they’re a total rip-off.
