I just ignored the call as it rang about 1.50pm, the usual time those PPI or accident claim folks tend to ring. When I checked the number with 1471, sure enough, it matched that kind of call.

Identified by the background noise, there was an Asian woman (from the Indian subcontinent) calling from a call centre. She claimed to be representing the "UK Aircraft Accident Helpline" and stated that she was aware of my involvement in an accident within the last year. In response, I informed her that her phone call was against the law (although it wasn't, I wanted to provoke a reaction). She quickly ended the call. It's worth mentioning that I reside in London, have an ex-directory number, and I am registered with the TPS (Telephone Preference Service).

I am receiving calls from these individuals every day, ringing my home at least thrice. Despite my choice to not answer, they never leave a message. It is frustrating to deal with these deceitful individuals. It is high time that the government takes action to put an end to the activities of these imposters. Just like the rest of them, I received a call from a woman with a thick accent struggling with her English, droning on about some accident compensation line. My mum, bless her, is quite advanced in years, and when she first caught wind of the word 'accident', she promptly dismissed it. But then the caller hinted it involved someone from the family, which sent her into a spin of worry, assuming one of her loved ones had met with misfortune. Oh dear, what a right laugh I had with this one! It seems I’ve encountered yet another of those “we reckon you've had a mishap” cold callers. When I told him I hadn’t had any such incident, he - with his rather strong foreign twang - insisted that it was documented. HIM: Our records indicate you’ve had an accident. ME: I can definitely confirm that I haven’t. HIM: Are you quite certain about that? ME: Perhaps you’re referring to the little tumble I took at work? HIM: Yes, an incident at work! We can assist you with that. I then said, “Well, you see, I was chopping up meat at the butcher’s in Asda and I had a bit of a stumble and fell into the slicer... and, well, my head went missing!” At that point, I hung up. The telephone line remains connected and one can hear the ambient sounds typically found in a call center. The caller's accent was quite thick, and his command of the English language seemed lacking. Quite a strange encounter, I must say.

Had a rather unpleasant call on Saturday from this number, which turned out to be peddling accident insurance. When I requested them to provide some proper details, they shockingly began to spell out 'F*** OFF'.
