I just ignored the call as it rang about 1.50pm, the usual time those PPI or accident claim folks tend to ring. When I checked the number with 1471, sure enough, it matched that kind of call.

Got a call from a woman who sounded like she was working in a call centre, probably somewhere in South Asia judging by all the chatter in the background. She said she was ringing from the "UK Aircraft Accident Helpline" and claimed she knew I’d been involved in an accident in the last year. I told her that what she was doing was illegal (which it’s not, but I wanted to mess with her a bit). She hung up quite quickly after that. I’m based in London, have an ex-directory number, and I’m on the TPS list too.

Got a call from this number claiming it was the National Accident Helpline about some “recent accident” they said I had. Told them I haven’t been in any accident and just hung up.

Got a call from this number earlier, looked like it was from the UK but the person on the line had an Asian accent. They claimed to be from the National Accident Helpline and mentioned something about a recent accident I supposedly had. When I told them I hadn't been in any accident, they got a bit confused and then just hung up suddenly.

I'm getting calls from these lot nearly three times daily. I just let it ring and never pick up, plus they don't bother leaving any voicemail either. Surely there's got to be some way to put an end to these scammers? It's high time the government steps in and does something to shut these nuisances down.

This number keeps ringing me up, claiming they’re from Bedford Council and asking if I’ve had an accident. Thing is, I don’t drive anymore, so there’s been no accident involving the council. They just keep calling over and over, which is really annoying. What I don’t get is how they even got hold of our landline number - we hardly ever use it to make or take calls. Does anyone know who these people actually are? And is there a way to find out more about them or put in a complaint?

Like the others have said, got a lady on the phone with a strong foreign accent, her English wasn't great. She kept talking about some accident helpline or something. My mum's quite elderly and when the word 'accident' came up on the call, she instantly said no. Then they mentioned it was someone from her family, which really frightened her, thinking maybe someone close had been hurt in an accident. They even asked for a phone number. Luckily, she soon had a funny feeling about it and told them to get lost! After that, she rang me up just to check everything was alright.

Today my x-dir phone number got a ring, but my phone stopped it from coming through. Some time ago, someone from India called me, saying they were with the "national accident helpline". I later checked with the real National Accident Helpline, and they told me they don't do cold calls at all. I ended up putting a warning about this scam on Streetlife.

I've had calls from this number a couple of times but since I didn’t know who it was, I just ignored it and let my answerphone take it. No messages were left either. When I tried calling back, some woman with an Indian accent picked up and said all lines were busy. How on earth did they get hold of my number from the directory?

Just had a laugh with this one. Got one of those cold calls about me supposedly having an accident. I told him straight I hadn’t, but he (with a weird foreign accent) kept saying there’s something on record. HIM: Our records show you had an accident. ME: Nope, no accident here. HIM: Are you certain about that? ME: Maybe you’re mixing me up with someone injured at work? HIM: Exactly, we can help with your work accident claim. ME: Oh yeah, I was slicing meat at Asda’s butcher counter, tripped and fell face-first into the slicer... lost my head, literally. Hung up after that. Fingers crossed they don’t bother me again! - caller: Dodgy compensation firm.

Around 8:15 pm on the 22nd of August, I got a call from some bloke with a Pakistani accent saying he was from the national accident helpline. I wasn't in the mood, so I just told him to piss off and hung up straight away.

Got a call asking if we’d been in any crashes over the past half year. Honestly, I wasn’t very polite with my reply and let a few swear words fly.

Then, out of the blue, the same individual rings again but this time from an overseas number and recites all my rude language back to me.

Just like others have said, when you pick up, no one talks back. You can tell the call is connected, you hear a bit of noise like a busy office in the background but it’s hard to be sure if it’s real or just a looped sound. Seems pretty dodgy to me, might just be some kind of recording.

Got a call from a bloke who said he was ringing about an "Accident". I asked him what accident he meant and he just told me I’d had one a while back. I told him he must have the wrong number and wished him a good day before ending the call. The guy spoke with a strong foreign accent and his English was quite rough. Definitely sounded like a dodgy call.

I got a call from this number on a Saturday, and it was some person trying to sell accident insurance. When I asked them for more info, they rudenly spelled out "FU** OFF" at me! I rang back, but it just went to some voicemail for a proper Lettings Agency. Tried again during the week and it looks like this number's being used for dodgy stuff. Best steer clear if it’s outside normal business hours!
