Got a call around 9 in the evening which caught me off guard. When I mentioned that calling so late wasn’t really OK, the bloke said he was from the HMRC and just wanted to run a quick survey. Never had anyone from HMRC ring me that late before, and his tone definitely didn’t come across as professional.

Got a call from someone saying they were from the Dept of Economy / IFF wanting to speak to my boss about recruitment stuff. They'd called before too, saying they were from the Dept of Education. Thing is, both of these departments are for Northern Ireland, but the calls came from Great Britain, so it felt off. Told the caller my manager wasn’t interested, but this rude Scottish woman said they'd keep ringing until they got through. Honestly, we just kept hanging up on them every time.

When I asked for more details, he got quite rude and kept pushing, but I’ve been working as a ‘gatekeeper’ at my job for years, so I immediately recognised it as dodgy. They’re gonna have to up their game next time if they want through!

Got a call from someone saying they were with the Department of Education. They wanted to speak to the business owner, but this is my personal mobile and has nothing to do with any company. They gave an 0800 number, 08009759596, saying it was for a market research firm. When I tried calling back, it just went straight to voicemail. Seems dodgy, maybe some kinda scam. This is actually the third time this number has called me; the first couple times they said they were from SODEXO working for the MOD.

Got a call from a guy yesterday and a woman today, both talking posh, but the bloke sounded like he’d been on the booze a bit. He said he was phoning for the Ministry of Defence and needed HR Manager contact details. Asked them both where in London they’re from, and they said Central London. When I pressed for a specific area, the line just cut off. Definitely a dodgy call.

If you’re going to run these scams, at least hire people who can talk it out properly. This guy was proper useless, not that I want to insult actual rocks. Don’t give out any info. If you’re unsure, just stall the call and look up the number online. That way, you’ll find out what you need. Be careful out there!

I told them I wasn’t interested, ended the call quickly, then blocked the number. What really worried me was that she knew my full name and pronounced it right - usually the scammers muck it up.
