Got a call the other day from someone wanting me to take part in a phone survey. When I asked which firm they were with, he muttered something that was hard to understand. The chap was polite enough, but it’s still a bit annoying. About half a year ago, I said yes to a genuine survey from Ipsos Mori, but they began ringing me up all the time, so I asked them to stop. I have a feeling they’ve passed my number onto some other survey company.

Got a call from 0203137548 claiming it was a political survey. They asked my husband about who he planned to vote for, his age, education, and where he lives. My husband wasn’t having any of it and said his political opinions are private. Then the caller rudeley said, ‘Alright, I’ll let you get back to your antidepressants now, sir!’ What a right knobhead. Blocked them straight away - this is the second time they’ve called and it’s just harassment.

Just had these muppets ring both my missus’s mobile and our landline at once! Totally obvious it’s a scam. We’ve never given permission to be contacted, not by email or cold calls, so how the heck did they get hold of our ex-directory info? My wife’s recently lost her dad, so this unwanted pestering is the last thing we need. The number they’re calling from isn’t even properly registered in Southampton. When I tried calling back using 1471 to check, all I got was some spiel about their 1081 voice mailbox being full. Seriously, these calls are nothing but pure harassment - they need to stop this nonsense now!

Got a response from Survation's CEO, Damian Lyons Lowe, who said sorry for the trouble caused. He explained that market research companies don’t have to screen against the TPS. He also pointed me to Ipsos Mori's website for a thorough explanation about how they handle calls. He mentioned that although they make millions of calls yearly, complaints are inevitable, but they strive to follow ICO rules closely and avoid annoying or silent calls. Damian offered to remove my number from their list immediately if I send it to him, although if I already declined the call, it should be off their system. This number rang my home phone (01904 XXXXXX) earlier, and a young woman said she was from some group called Survation doing a survey about how people in York plan to vote. I told her I’m signed up with the telephone preference service so shouldn’t be getting calls like this. I'd suggest getting in touch with the Human Rights court and filing a complaint about the constant calls, it's borderline harassment and invasion of privacy. If this was some ex or a troublesome colleague harassing you nonstop at odd hours you might be able to get a restraining order from the police. Since this situation isn't exactly like that, maybe bugging the people in Brussels to step in would be the way forward.
