The call ended with a “goodbye and take care,” which doesn’t sound like something an HM Revenue & Customs officer would say at all. I haven’t dialled the number, just in case.

I GOT A MESSAGE FROM THIS NUMBER, A WOMAN WHO SOUNDED HALF DRUNK CLAIMING TO BE FROM HMRC, ASKING ME TO RING BACK ABOUT SOME URGENT ISSUE. WHEN I CALLED, I SPOKE TO A JOHN ANDERSON (WITH A STRONG INDIAN ACCENT) WHO MADE SOME SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS. I LISTENED BUT TOLD HIM HE WAS WRONG ABOUT THE DETAILS. HE THEN SAID I’D UNDERSTAND BETTER WHEN THE POLICE TURN UP AT MY DOOR IN THE NEXT HALF HOUR. I’VE REPORTED THE CALL TO HMRC AND PLAN TO LODGE A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE POLICE BEFORE THE DAY ENDS.

As someone who uses a wheelchair, reaching the phone is quite the challenge, and despite having explained my situation to them, they persist in bothering me. I've made it clear that this behaviour constitutes harassment, and that I’m considering reporting them, yet they seem completely unconcerned. If I don’t pick up, they just switch to ringing me from other numbers. I'm at my wit’s end, with as many as 20 calls a day from various companies.

Got a call at some silly early hour today. Picked up but no one spoke. Been getting loads of calls from different 0203 numbers lately. Dunno if blocking unwanted calls for priority users actually works. I’m even paying Virgin to block these nuisance calls but they still come through. A few days ago, my phone showed a text saying I had a message, thought it might be a mate or family (they do leave messages sometimes) so I answered, only to be told I was rude for not hearing what they were selling me.

Got a call from a woman with an Indian accent, asking if I was Mrs (my mum's name). I asked who she was, she said something about Hotpoint, which was odd since our Hotpoint dryer has been acting up, so I thought maybe it was genuine. Then she asked if I lived at (my address), I didn’t respond, and next she asked if my mum was between 20 and 80 years old. When I asked who she was again, she just hung up! Honestly felt like someone broke into my home and just shouted at me!

I suspect that this is a dodgy PPI refund service. I’ve just hung up from a conversation with a firm that claimed to be 'National Refunds.' They transferred me to a couple of 'senior managers' as soon as I mentioned I already had a PPI claim in process. They seemed rather confused by this and insisted they were merely completing the 'final paperwork' before I received my payout. ME: Who exactly are you? THEM: We’re National Refunds. ME: And can you provide your contact number? THEM: It’s 1993706330. (This didn’t correspond with the caller ID on my phone, which displayed 02031292543.) ME: I pointed out that this number isn’t valid (there’s no leading zero). THEM: Oh, it’s definitely a real number! ME: Where’s your office located, then? THEM: Manchester City, they replied. ME: So why doesn’t your number start with 0161? I was then placed on hold for a while. Eventually, the call handler suggested that I seemed to know more about PPI than they did and probably didn’t need their help. Odd choice for them to reach out to me, right? I tried calling the number back while including the leading zero, and instead of reaching National Reclaims, I got some irritable chap who clearly was not pleased with my call. When I said I didn’t understand and told them I speak English, they huffed and just hung up on me. I never give out my name or info even if it sounds legit. This bloke rings me up twice a day every day, always asking for someone who doesn’t live here. He’s tried all sorts, like marketing scams, mortgage scams, even bank scams. We've been polite at first, but after the 40th call, we just lost patience and told him off. We’ve even had to hang up our line a few times because of him.

Every morning around 8 to 9 am I get calls but no one ever talks, I guess it’s some sort of automated thing, I’m thinking of reporting it.

Got a call like that too, sounded Asian, no building society or any company name, but they knew my name and address, plus something about "between 20 and 80". Like others have said, they asked if I had a mortgage years ago, then just mumbled and cut the call.

Got a call from a guy with an Indian accent claiming he was from Nationwide. When I asked for any proof, he just cut me off and ended the call. Tried ringing him back, but the line just dropped straight away. Pretty clear it was a scam. I reported it to the ICO, but they didn’t seem bothered much.

Somebody with a strange accent rang me, claiming to be from Nationwide and somehow knew my name. They asked if I ever had a mortgage a while back, then wondered if I was aged between 20 and 80. Suddenly, they just ended the call. Weird behaviour if you ask me.

Got a call early this morning around 8:20 from a woman with a strange accent. I tried finding out where she was ringing from, thought I heard "Curo" or something like that. Then she launched into a really fast and confusing spiel, I kept trying to ask what her company was about but she wouldn't pause. I told her it was impolite not to let me speak, and she shot back saying I was rude because she was just cold calling. I told her to jog on and ended the call. Their number wasn’t blocked so I’ll be reporting them to the TPS.
