I got a couple of calls back-to-back from people claiming to be my bank, but really they were pushing some sort of PPI refund. When I rang the number back, they said they were from Data Bank Refunds, but I couldn't find any legit info about them anywhere. I told him my husband wasn’t interested anymore, but he insisted he needed to hear it straight from him. If he’d bothered speaking to his team first, they’d have sorted it out. When you put your number on their site, expect a call from them. Instead of hanging up straight away, listen to what they have to say - they actually share helpful tips about reclaiming your cash. If you change your mind and don’t want to continue, just tell them to remove your number and they will do it. This isn’t some random cold call, but many simply won’t let them talk and miss out on the advice.

Certain mobiles like the Nokia Lumia come with built-in features that stop calls and texts automatically. Just add the number to your block list, and you won’t have to deal with them anymore.

If your smartphone doesn’t have this option, no worries - you can get an app for that. I’ve been using True Caller, and it works really well. Simply input the number, and it’s blocked for good.

Plus, both these methods let you block calls that show up as 'private', 'unknown', or 'withheld', which is really handy.

I keep getting calls all the time even though I’m registered with both TPS and MPS. They never even get my details right. When I tell them I’m on those lists, they just hang up straight away.
