She claimed they had a contract deal where he could get a brand new Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra for just £25 a month, which seemed ridiculously cheap given that this phone usually costs around £60-70 a month on contract. She never mentioned how long the contract would be, which already felt a bit dodgy. Dad got excited and agreed, then ended up giving her his banking details, including sort code and account number - which honestly raised some red flags. She asked all sorts of personal financial questions, like his annual income, supposedly for a credit check. When he told me about it, I immediately suspected it was some kind of scam. So I tried calling that number back but kept getting “the person you have called is unavailable.” I phoned Carphone Warehouse’s official customer support to report it, and they confirmed it was a scam. Thankfully, I managed to block my dad’s bank card straight away, and luckily no money had been taken or any direct debits set up. Lesson learnt: never hand out your info to anyone claiming to be Carphone Warehouse calling from 02030496081 - it’s a scam. And honestly, hate these scammers.
