She presented him with a seemingly irresistible contract deal, offering a brand new Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra for just £25 a month-remarkably low, considering the usual market rate of around £60 to £70 for such a device. Naturally, this piqued my dad's interest, and he agreed to the terms without hesitation, even divulging his banking details, including his account number and sort code, which raised some alarm bells. The caller proceeded to ask him a flurry of financial questions, trying to make it appear as if they were compiling a credit report. Upon hearing my dad recount the experience, I began to realise that something was terribly off, and it bore all the hallmarks of a scam. I promptly rang the same number back, only to be met with an automated message stating, "the person you have called is unavailable." Following this, I reached out to Carphone Warehouse's customer service and was informed that the call was indeed fraudulent. Immediately, I took action to block the card my dad had used, and thankfully, no funds were withdrawn and no direct debits were set up. The takeaway here is very clear: never share personal information with anyone claiming to be from Carphone Warehouse using this number (02030496081).
