If you’ve ever self-published or even considered it, you might get calls from Authorhouse. Looks like they’re just trying to drum up some more business from people like that.

Last night I kept getting calls from this number and some others that looked alike. I can hardly believe a legit company in the UK would be ringing so late, it’s probably one of those dodgy scams from India.

I said I'd chat with them another time but they just kept calling me nonstop.

They kept ringing me over and over, and when I finally picked up, they already knew my name which was a bit unnerving. They claimed I was trying to get a book published, even though I’ve never spoken to anyone about that. They almost pleaded with me to share details about this supposed book, but I said I was busy and would talk later, hoping they'd just end the call because I didn’t want to sound impolite. Instead, they started shouting at me for wanting to delay the chat, so I ended the call right there. Now, they keep phoning me non-stop.

Keep getting nonstop calls, it's mental. Any respectable company wouldn’t behave like that. Just ignoring them now.

This number 02030144095 keeps ringing me non stop. Even though I've blocked it, I still end up getting voicemails from them, though they're empty. It's mad, sometimes I get about 4 calls every single day!

Got a ring from a mobile number but no voicemail or anything, so I’m not gonna bother ringing back. Could be one of those dodgy ones that hook you up with a premium line. If they really wanna chat, they’ll try again. Don’t recognise the number anyway.

This number keeps ringing me nonstop, like daily or something. They never say anything when I pick up or leave a voicemail, so I have zero clue who it could be. Proper annoying!

Over the last couple of days, they kept ringing me, I missed about 7 calls. They just keep calling over and over again. I was out most of the time. I do know AuthorHouse from before.

I'm pretty sure it was Author House or some other firm linked to them. Honestly, Author House feels like a total con. Stay clear and don’t bother publishing your book through them! I ended up losing more than £3,000 and got absolutely nothing in return. If you look closely at their contract, in tiny writing, it mentions they’re only obliged to pay a tiny fraction of the royalties annually. What a rip off!

Not sure who it was, I didn’t pick up, just checked the number on this site. I’m trying to get my book published and reached out to a place called Author House. Just saw an email from them saying they tried calling me again this morning, but the number they gave in the email isn’t the same one that’s been ringing me. Kinda strange they called me out of the blue. I’ll have to ask Author House if they’re passing my details along somewhere. Feels a bit dodgy.

Someone rang me up from a so-called publishing firm using this number. Even though I do write books, it was creepy how he already had my name and address. He kept asking loads of questions about what I’m working on next. Then out of nowhere he shouted “we’ve recorded everything you said” and just cut me off mid-sentence. Proper strange experience that.

Got a call from this number the other day, I’m down here in Virginia. There was a voicemail but it was hard to catch what they said, loads of background noise too, like a phone kept ringing and some busy-tone in the back. Haven’t had any more calls from them after that. Anyone know if it’s some kinda publishing firm?

I'm from New Zealand and saw a missed call from this number earlier. I looked it up on Google and ended up on this page. When I tried calling back, a message said the number was no longer active, which didn’t make sense since they just called me. So, that must be a prerecorded message, not from the phone company. First red flag. After reading through the comments here, I figured out why. Second red flag. A while ago, I signed up to a site that offers tips for new writers, so I reckon they might have shared my details somewhere. Has anyone else done the same recently?

So I just got a call from someone named Alisa Milanic, she said she was from the DHS, like the Department of Human Services or something. She mentioned it was about child protection or whatever. Has anyone else had any calls from this person? Strange thing is, she sounded pretty official. My number is 0455744419 if anyone wants to share if they’ve heard from her too.

Apparently this place claims to be a legit self-publishing agency for new authors, but honestly all I keep coming across are loads of warnings about it being just another shady business full of scammers! Seems like a total rip-off trying to fool hopeful writers.

Got a ring on my phone from 13174893887, some Sheila Millan who said she’s a marketing manager at Xlibris. Then, about thirty minutes later, another call popped up from 12030144095, this time from Therese Burns, who claimed the same job. Feeling like a bit of a celeb or just unlucky? Not thrilled about having my Saturday arvo interrupted like that, especially with calls assuming I wanted to chat.

This number has rung me twice lately. The first time was during the day, and they must have accidentally left the line open because I got around 30 seconds of background noise from what sounded like a call centre, but no clear words. Then, out of nowhere, they called again at 2.15 in the morning! Luckily, my phone was on silent so it didn’t wake me up. You can’t ring the number back, so I’m stumped about who it might be.

These responses are quite useful and match up with what happened when I picked up a call from this number. A woman with a Filipino accent was on the line. I ended the call quickly because a live hostage drama on the news caught my full attention. I also remember checking out their publishing service and found they charged a hefty fee for helping authors get their books published. If they ring again, I’m definitely not picking up.

I had a ring from them earlier today, and honestly, they come across as just some dodgy scammers pretending to be a legit publishing company. You really don’t have to splash loads of cash just to get your book out there - it’s all about having a decent manuscript.

Appreciate the heads up. I’m in Singapore as well. This number has rung me around six times over the past couple of days, but I never answered. Honestly, I had clicked on a few ads about publishing stuff but none from Xlibris. Interestingly, these calls began just a day after I clicked. Thanks again, Zi Wei

So, Debbie Ramos from Xlibris keeps calling me, trying to sell me this publishing deal for my book, asking for R9000 upfront. She keeps on ringing and putting pressure on me to cough up the cash. She's telling me my book will become a TV series and that there’s a sequel coming soon, but honestly, I find the whole thing pretty dodgy and scummy. Really not impressed at all.
