0203012345 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 0203012345 👆 is reported as a predatory telecom scam targeting the elderly and vulnerable, involving repeated unsolicited calls falsely claiming affiliation with BT or the Telephone Preference Service. The company, known by various names including Guaranteed Telecom, Zoom Telecom, and Met Technologies, has been found by OFCOM to breach regulations related to mis-selling and unauthorised line transfers ("slamming"). Victims frequently report unexplained direct debits of around £21.99 monthly set up without clear consent, often through cold calls requesting bank details under false pretences. Attempts to cancel services are met with obfuscation or aggression. Banks have sometimes been slow to prevent recurring charges, and official complaints have been made to trading standards and action fraud. Caution is strongly advised; verify any unsolicited telecom offers independently and protect vulnerable contacts from these scams.

Like others have pointed out on here and on Trustpilot, OFCOM ruled on 4th June 2021 that Met Technologies, Guaranteed Telecom, and their UK-registered subsidiaries broke three General Condition 7 regulations throughout 2019. This involved SLAMMING or incorrect selling practices. Because of this, OFCOM can instruct Kunal Gupta, the Director based in India who oversees all these companies including Met Plus Telecom, to fix the issues and pay compensation to all impacted customers, including those mentioned below, using the UK company registration as leverage, and also impose a hefty fine.

I first posted about this back on 14/12/2019. Eventually we had no choice but to get solicitors to send letters to Zoom/Met/Guaranteed, or whatever name they're using these days. Now I hear they're hassling a mate of the original victim, who sadly has passed away. They’re trying to find out if there are any relatives still alive. I'm absolutely fuming at how they're acting. They must’ve got the friend’s number from the stolen phone records. The level of dishonesty and dodgy dealings is just unreal. What’s Ofcom even doing? They've been aware of this for ages!

These kinda sound like slamming or mis-selling to me. You might wanna try contacting the Information Commissioner’s Office or maybe Ealing Council’s Trading Standards for help.

That comment from 14/12 really hits home for me, I’ve had the exact same issue with my 86 year old mum who has dementia. Some company took control of her phone line without us realising. The old connection stopped working, and BT/Openreach put in a new line because of welfare concerns. We only found out who grabbed the old line when Zoom sent a bill three months later. Even after contacting them, they keep sending charges for a service that isn’t even active! We’ve involved Ofcom but sadly they haven’t been able to sort anything out.

I noticed on OFCOM’s site (dated 20 November this year) that they’re looking into Met Technologies and Guaranteed Telecom over claims of slamming. Might be a good idea to get involved and share your stories there, as they probbly aren’t clued up on all the problems yet. Could make a difference.

Looks like Met Technologies, Zoom Telecom, Guaranteed Telecom, and Millenium Talk might be running off a pinched BT database with banking info. Seems Met Technologies PTY in India is the call centre, possibly linked to BT’s former helpdesk provider.

These scammers target old and defenceless people. We found a direct debit for £21.99 set up on our 83 year old dad’s online bank account. They ended up taking about £130 in total. We stopped the direct debit and got in touch with the bank, who helped us get all the money back under the direct debit guarantee. So if anyone else has had money taken like this, get in touch with your bank and ask about claiming through the direct debit guarantee.

Had a look at my dad’s acct since I’ve got POA and noticed they’ve pulled £21.99 out. I’m gonna reach out to Citizens Advice once I’m less rattled. The last time this happened was with some vitamins sellers who somehow took more than £2000!

Spotted a £21.99 direct debit coming out of my mum’s bank account under GUARANTEED TELECOM REF ZOOMT. Not sure how many times it’s been taken since she burns all her statements. We’ve asked the bank to investigate but not sure if she’ll get all the money back as its been happening for over a year, sometimes more than once a month. Could be over £400 in total. She’s 78 and has no memory of agreeing to this. Absolute scoundrels!!!

These crooks targeted my elderly mum who has limited eyesight, constantly ringing her. They only promised to end the calls if she fell for their call blocking trick. They somehow managed to take a couple hundred quid from her card, and when we stopped that, they started a direct debit for £21.99 each month. Absolutely disgusting people, taking advantage of the old and vulnerable.

Like many others here, I got a call yesterday from someone claiming to be from BT, saying they help block cold calls. They had all my bank info, even my sort code, said it was just to verify my identity. Claimed it was a free service. After seeing what others said, I rang BT and they said it wasn’t them at all. I’ve now told my bank and I’m sorting a new account. These people deserve to be punished properly.

This morning I got a call from a firm claiming they would stop all unwanted phone calls for me. They sounded so convincing I actually fell for it, thinking they were connected to BT. It wasn’t until after I gave them my info that I noticed they were total scammers. I acted quick to sort it out. Feeling really annoyed at myself but honestly they seemed legit. Watch out for this number: 0203 6300 337. Proper dodgy.

Guaranteed Telecom somehow got hold of my 94 year old mother in law’s bank info and attempted to start a direct debit. My husband reached out to Trading Standards like Sarah Stevens suggested, but all they did was email back saying he should get in touch with Citizens Advice. What’s the point in that? Don’t they care about protecting our most vulnerable folk from these scams?

This outfit is a total con artists, they tricked my nan into handing over £21.99. I've already reported it to the fraud squad. I’m gonna ring her bank again to get them to issue a new card with a fresh account number. Every review I’ve seen about them seems to go after older folk and those who're easy to take advantage of. Thankfully, she showed me their letter this morning, so I rang her bank straight away to stop the direct debit. Please warn all your older family members to NEVER give out any personal details. BE CAREFUL.

Someone rang me saying it was just a single payment but when I looked at my latest bank statement it’s coming out every month. Sounds like a right dodgy scam to me. I’m now trying to sort a refund and my bank have even got their fraud department on it!

Scammers from India are preying on elderly people and those with dementia. They pretend to be from BT and manage to get their bank info. Then, a letter arrives, written in quite poor English, confirming a direct debit but without saying what it's for, how much it costs, or how often. A few days later, the direct debit gets set up, but it only appears in the bank records after the first payment of £21.99 is taken. These scumbags are really low. We ended up cancelling my parents' landline because of all these never-ending scams.

My 87 year old mum got a call from these lot and now they’re charging her £21.99 a month for some kind of calming/blocking service - but she’s still getting calls anyway, so she’s basically paying £21.99 for absolutely nothing. I’m going to stop the direct debit for her.

Had a bloke on the phone say it’s a one time payment, nothing more. Yet I’ve had two lots taken straight from my account so I’ve just cancelled the direct debit. These slimy people are preying on the most vulnerable and it’s gotta stop now. Banks should know who these people are and warn their customers about them.

My 94 year old mum who suffers with Alzheimer's was tricked into giving her bank details over the phone for some call blocking thing. They ended up taking £21.99 every month for a whole year before I even spotted it. How are these lot still allowed to do this?

0203 6305457 These lot, Guaranteed Telecom, are complete scammers, STAY WELL AWAY! They rang my elderly mum out the blue, she thought it was BT and ended up giving them her bank details by mistake. Just received the direct debit through the post today. They had all her personal info already, which is worrying. We're closing her bank account straight away and reporting this fraud to the police.

Guaranteed Telecom Ltd rang my mum out of the blue, asking straight up for her bank info. Since then, they've been sending letters pestering her to arrange a direct debit. Proper idiots. I reckon it’s got to be from a data leak at BT, maybe by some call centre in India cos the caller knew all about my mum’s BT details, like her full name and address. Really worrying stuff. Absolute tossers, hope they get what's coming to them, painfully slow.

Had a brush with these lot today, really unpleasant bunch, wouldn’t share a thing. Headed straight to my Bank since they knew so much. Seriously, where do they even get all that info from? Proper scary stuff.

I can't believe Guarantee Telecom are still allowed to get away with this. They managed to take more than £100 from my 89 year old mother-in-law’s account before we even realised what was happening. Surely the banks should be blocking this kind of fraud right from the start since they know about these scams.

Got a call off these lot twice in a row the last couple days, wanted me to cough up £21.99 to keep this so-called call blocking thing going. They claimed I’d been shelling out £4 each month (total rubbish). Said if I didn’t pay up, the service would stop and I’d be slammed with spam calls from everywhere. They got proper nasty the more I questioned them, started shouting and being really pushy. Total con straight up.

Same here. My 94-year old nan got scammed back in March, only just found out coz she thought it was from BT. She’s got dementia and is really fragile. It’s awful. They took almost £200 from her account. We’ve told the bank’s fraud team and they’re working on getting it back, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

My mum is 84 and swears she never shared any bank details. Luckily, she was able to cancel the direct debit before any money left her account. Big thanks to everyone providing helpful info - it’s great to stay one step ahead of these scammers preying on older people.

They tricked my 83 year old mum who’s a bit hard of hearing. They kept saying she couldn’t cancel it even tho it was within 14 days. Luckily her bank’s on it and won’t let the direct debit go through. But seriously, how on earth did they get her bank info?

My mum’s 84 and she just got tricked by this lot. I called up to stop the direct debit and made it clear I’m gonna report them and call them out. Don't really know where to start with that though. This is already the third dodgy company we’ve come across this year.

I just looked through my 95-year-old mate’s bank statement and saw that this lot have been taking £21.99 by direct debit for about a year and a half. This was even after the cops came round on the same day we rang the company and were told they’d stop the DD.

Had a very similar situation. They managed to convince my 89 year old father-in-law to agree to a £22 a month payment. I called the firm straight away and managed to cancel the direct debit. They really act like they are untouchable. I've reported them both to OFCOM and Action Fraud. The business is officially registered at Companies House. The owner, Kunal Gupta, lives in India, but his company address is listed at his accountant, Peter Upton, in Maidenhead. Honestly, this firm should be closed down.

I just found out my mother in law, who’s 92, has been getting charged for this since the 1st of Feb. She has no memory of signing up for it, so we’re gonna put a stop to it. Cheers to everyone for sharing their experiences.

My 90 year old dad just got the exact same scam letter saying "Thank you for using our services" and that a direct debit has been arranged, but no amount mentioned. Looks like they even have his bank account details. He was flooded with dodgy calls last week about "BT telephone preference" too, so I guess it's all connected. We've told his bank, but honestly, this is so terrible and cruel - it really upset him.

Watch out for these conmen targeting older folks. They claim to be BT and say they offer “call blocking” but it’s all a con. My dad’s been tricked by them for more than a year now, lost over £200 and still gets loads of annoying calls all the time. Total rip off and nothing but scams. Bloody disgraceful ###########

My mum, who's 85, got caught out by Guaranteed Telecom. They've been taking £21.99 from her account every month for the past five months through direct debit. I've gone ahead and cancelled it now. She doesn't remember ever signing up or being approached by them at all. The bank hasn't been willing to put the money back either. Fingers crossed that this morning's feature about these scammers on BBC's "Rip Off Britain" might push the officials to do something and finally shut these fraudsters down.

Just found out my mum’s been getting charged £21.99 by Guaranteed Telecom, but she doesn’t remember signing up for anything and there’s no proof they’re actually offering any service. After checking all the info here, it looks like a total scam. I’ve stopped the direct debit and am contacting Guaranteed Telecom to get it cancelled.

Had a couple of chaps called John Watson from Guaranteed Telecom ringing me up saying they could block all overseas and international calls for only £21.99 a month. I said I wasn’t interested but they kept me on the line for ages, about 20 minutes. Then some supervisor started telling me quite pushy that everything could be stopped. Next thing I know, a direct debit for £21.99 turned up in my bank with my sort code on it. No idea how they managed that! I’ve cancelled the direct debit straight away, so now we’ll just wait and see what happens.

I got a call from Guaranteed Telecom claiming they could block all my nuisance calls. Turns out it’s just a con. They told me they wouldn’t charge me, yet £21.99 got taken straight from my bank. I reported it to my bank and thankfully got my money back the very next day. The bank cancelled the direct debit, so fingers crossed that’s the last of it. Still, I’ll be keeping a close watch to make sure it doesn’t happen again. David Smith

Guaranteed Telecom have been bothering my 85 year old mum and she got a dd mandate through today. She tried calling the 0203 number but honestly they were about as useful as a chocolate teapot. At least she’s planning to visit the bank to check nothing gets taken from her account.

I had a pretty much the same thing happen with my 84 year old dad. Just a heads up, the 0844 number on their direct debit form is a right pain. I rang that number today to cancel the contract and first got an Indian woman who then put me through to a “supervisor.” They were really unhelpful, quite rude, and seemed to just be stalling, probably trying to squeeze more cash through that 0844 number. Proper scam if you ask me.

I didn’t get a call, but a letter came to me, using my nickname instead of my actual first name, about a direct debit being set up. It didn’t say how much or give my bank info, but it had my mum’s account details. I tried ringing the number on the letter, but all I get is a message saying the call will be recorded before it hangs up. Told my mum to check with her bank to make sure no payment goes out, and I’m planning to get in touch with Guaranteed Telefom first thing tomorrow.

Just found out Guaranteed Telecom took money straight from my Mother in laws bank without asking. She has dementia and before we had a call from them pretending to be the TPS, asking for info they already had but tried to get more. When I said no, the caller got really rude and hung up. Then 2 minutes later some ‘supervisor’ phoned trying to get me to give details, got nasty and ended the call. They obviously tried again and managed to fool my 87 year old relative. Proper scammers, even their website looks dodgy claiming to sell business broadband. They really should be closed down.

Some bloke called Neil Jones somehow got my 89-year-old mum to agree to a direct debit to supposedly block annoying calls (!). We had to visit the bank to stop the payment and also ring Guaranteed Telecom to cancel it. When she rang back, the guy there tried to pressure her again, so I had to step in to make sure they understood the direct debit was being cancelled.

My 85 year old mum got caught out by these lot as well. I phoned them up to ask what the fuss was about and they told me it was to stop annoying calls. They wouldn’t say where they got her info from but claimed it was a renewal for a service she’s supposedly had since getting the number. That was 40 years ago, so I highly doubt it. They want a one-off payment of £21.99, due on 13 July, and refuse to cancel it saying it’s a 'service' they provide. Absolutely not on, honestly.

Guaranteed Teecom rang my 94-year-old mum, who’s in a care home and suffers from dementia. They somehow convinced her to hand over her bank details and she ended up with a Direct Debit of £21.99 set up, which included some Zoom reference. Today I got a phone call from a group claiming to be from a preference calling outfit. I’m neither old nor at risk but still got caught out. At first I was pretty careful about what I said, but like others have mentioned, they seemed to know loads of info and came across as very believable. They gave me a number to ring back on, and after hanging up and thinking it over, I rang it again. They told me everything’s been cancelled now, but I’ll definitely be watching my account closely. I went through something similar. The person on the phone claimed to be from British Telecom and seemed to know quite a bit about my account. They asked if I wanted to keep the "call blocking" service and wanted me to verify my details. This time, they actually told me their info and asked me to confirm it. There's never any talk about fees or charges though. BT already offers this feature for free. I rang my bank, Nationwide, and luckily they stopped the payment. Proper smooth scam, that one.

I rang my uncle to check if he was happy with the call blocking service and if he wanted to keep it. He thought it was BT calling since they manage his service. Luckily, Halifax has refunded the two £21 payments that were withdrawn, and fingers crossed they can’t take anything else.

For half a year now, my parents have had money withdrawn from their bank account by a company called Zoom Telecom. The bank told us the direct debit was set up under my dad’s name, even though he’s been in care for two years and isn’t able to talk or write. My mum can’t provide any information or give consent either because of her health problems. So how on earth did they get hold of their bank details? This feels totally illegal.

Zoom Telecom is notorious for scamming older people. My husband got the initial direct debit refunded, but this month it showed up again and the bank refused to refund us. Barclays told us it might keep happening and all we can do is monitor the account closely. Zoom are very unpleasant, always argumentative and won’t help at all. My nan, who’s 84 and living with dementia, has somehow been tricked by something called Zoom. There’s this direct debit set up on her bank that’s just taken £99.99 from her. Looks like they go after older folks who’ve signed up with the telephone preference service, then trick them into handing over their bank info, all while pretending it’s to stop annoying calls. Just got a call from someone about BT, so I decided to mess with them a bit. I asked which number they were referring to, and they said the one they’d just called me on. When I pointed out it was a mobile number, they got all confused. Then I threw back that as a company they have about 30 different numbers, so which one did they want?
