Someone called saying they were from Appliance Care Ltd, telling me my plumbing and pipe insurance was about to expire. They claimed they could renew it and gave me a weird card number starting with 4 and ending with some random digits, which I obviously don’t have. I refused to give my card details since I didn’t know who they were and they wouldn’t provide any paperwork before payment. The bloke gave his name as Matt and a number, but when I looked it up online, it led me to this site. I also searched the company name and it’s nowhere to be found.

Someone rang asking for my partner by his name and even knew a 'password'. They said he hasn't made a claim on our draining policy for a year and suggested we get plumbing done - but we've never even had that policy. The caller was pretty vague about what they wanted and said they only worked in sales, so couldn’t clarify which policy we supposedly had. They told us if we doubted it, to ring back on 0800 520 2420. Claimed to be from Appliance Care Group, but a quick Google showed no such company exists. Be careful and don’t get caught out!

The phone chimed once at precisely 12:39 on the 31st of January, 2019. My Call Guardian setup from BT kicked in immediately and intercepted the call after just a single ring. Additionally, the BT 1572 service stepped in and blocked it too-not that I'm complaining, as the subscription has proven to be invaluable. In fact, I've recorded a staggering 27 calls thwarted in January alone! I'm rather tempted to return the favour by calling back and cutting off the line, given I've got a free calls package. However, BT cautioned against this, suggesting that the number could very well be associated with a premium-rate line. What a nuisance!

I received a rather peculiar call from a chap who seemed to know my name. He informed me that there'd been a change to the phone number for my Hotpoint washing machine insurance and promptly provided me with a new number. He then rather presumptuously asked if I was ready to set up that policy immediately. I politely declined, and to my surprise, he just hung up without a word. Upon looking into the number he’d given me - 0800 1205202420 - I found it to be nonexistent. Quite a dodgy situation, if you ask me!

its a scam i got a call saying they could lower my yearly charge. i dont even have an account with appliance so best to just hang up on them

Someone named Clio called me and asked if I was Mrs (my name). I said "yes" and she went, "Hi, I’m Clio calling" then she just giggled and hung up right away. Strange.

02030114041 keep ringing my landline every couple of days, saying it's appliance care. I tried calling them back from another number and got stuck on a hold message with an American voice, then finally spoke to someone with a British accent. They claimed it was about some plumbing and drainage policy we supposedly have, but we've never had anything like that. They seem to know my husband's last name, probably from a phone directory, but not mine, which is when it clicked to me that it was a scam when they asked for "Mrs [husband's surname]."

Just got a call from a polite person claiming to be from appliance care saying we had an account since 2016 on a 2 year plan. I knew this was wrong as we were always with the gas board. Told them to cancel any account and let it expire, which the caller said he would do, was quite understanding since we never signed up. Don’t fall for it, they just want your cash and later you’ll be hit with a cancellation charge once you realise it’s a scam.

I received a phone call from this number, with a chap claiming he represented Appliance Care, stating that my washing machine’s warranty was about to lapse. I was quite sure that this wasn't the case. When I asked him to confirm the brand of my washing machine, he stumbled and got it wrong. Then he switched tactics, trying to convince me that the cover extended to my plumbing - implying it included 'water pipes and drainage'. I firmly told him that I suspected he might be attempting to con me, and promptly hung up. I've just celebrated my 80th birthday this year, yet thankfully, I still consider my wits about me. I do wish there was a way to track these individuals down and report them for their dubious practices.

I could hear loads of noise in the background, sounded like a call centre or something. Nobody actually said anything, they just ended the call on me.
