This number (02024568636) keeps ringing me up loads, sometimes a couple times each day! They’re always saying I can get money back from bank fees. I told them to stop calling and to remove me from their list. Earlier today, after getting fed up, I warned them that if they didn’t stop, I’d report them properly. The bloke on the phone then started calling me “love” and “dear”, probably trying to calm me down, but it just made me more cross! Definitely a scam. I’ve also had them ring saying my Windows PC has a major virus. I told them my partner’s in IT and we don’t even use Windows anymore, have been on Linux for yonks.

Today, I got three calls from the same number and every time I picked up, they just hung up straight away. The last time, I told them to stop calling me altogether...

There was a pause before he started talking and that made me think he wasn’t calling locally. A man with a strong foreign accent asked for me by name, but I didn’t confirm and asked who exactly he was. He dodged my question and insisted my bank owed me some money back, which immediately set off alarm bells. Banks don’t ring after hours, especially not on weekends or public holidays. I cut him off and warned that the call was being recorded. You could hear him getting mad as he snapped, ‘why are you bloody telling me that?’ I told him the recording could be used as evidence when I reported him to the ICO. Then I told him it was unacceptable to call and use foul language. Of course, he hung up right away… I’m not surprised. I’ve since reported the call to the Information Commissioner’s Office through the info on the Telephone Preference Service website.

We got a call on our unlisted home number and somehow they already had my wife's name. The caller claimed to be from our bank and mentioned that we were owed a refund for some bank fees. Since we’ve never been charged any fees, my wife asked them to identify the bank they supposedly represented... then, out of nowhere, they just cut the call!

I just got a ring from this number, a guy with what sounded like an Indian or Pakistani accent, claiming he wanted to give me a refund for some charges. When I asked who he was, he gave the name David Brown and said he worked at the UK Government repayment centre in Brighton. He even told me my address. Then he asked for my date of birth and which bank I use. After that, he told me to grab my bank card and started asking for the first six digits, then insisted I read out the rest of the numbers! I told him to tell me the numbers instead, then I hung up. He phoned back straight away but my husband answered and told him not to call again. Haven’t heard from him since. I’ve reported the whole thing to the National Fraud Helpline just to be safe.

This number just rang me up and tried to get my bank info. I decided to mess with them, gave a random birth date and said I had an account with Lloyds TSB. They went on to ask for the digits on my card and wanted to confirm if it was correct. I told them that couldn’t be true since I’ve never held an account with Lloyds or TSB, then ended the call. Be cautious about sharing any personal details on calls like this!

I got a call from someone claiming they were giving back bank fees from the past six years. They wanted my bank details and offered to either post a cheque or pay directly into my account. When I asked which bank they meant and how much money was involved, they just said I wasn’t interested and ended the call. Honestly, these scammers should be shut down!

I got a call from this number earlier today, some bloke with an Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi accent asking if my mum was around. When I told him she wasn’t, he suddenly said, “oh, you must be her daughter,” then muttered something all crackly over the line. I asked him to say it again, and to my shock, he asked if “my pussy was red or pink” or something like that. I was stunned and just ended the call. Moments later, he rang back again. No idea what to make of it!

Total scam alert. Got a call from a bloke with an accent, probably Indian, Pakistani, or Bangladeshi, asking me to confirm my address and some other stuff I couldn’t quite catch - likely bank details - saying I was due a refund from the bank. When I said I wasn’t giving out any info, they just hung up, but not before pretending they couldn’t hear me when I pointed out that if the bank did owe me money, they’d handle the refund anyway. Oddly, they first asked to speak to someone else at my house about the same refund, but that person wasn’t home.

Honestly, the first thing you should do is contact the police, that’s what I ended up doing myself. Don’t waste your time trying to argue or share anything with them. Just hang up straight away, note down the number, and make sure you report it. No faffing about, it’s the safest approach.

I just wanted to say, don’t ring the police about this number, they don’t handle this sort of thing anymore. Instead, you should contact the UK national fraud line on 03001232040. Also, if you want to stop marketing calls, blocking 08450700707 is a good step.

Hopefully this gives some clarity to folks.

It’s really important to report these scammers - they’re preying on vulnerable people and need to be caught.
