I received a rather perplexing call earlier today from a gentleman with a notably thick accent, making it somewhat tricky to decipher his words. He asserted that he was affiliated with a law enforcement agency and claimed to be representing HMRC, demanding £2,000 for outstanding tax payments dating back to 2006 and 2010. I played along and mentioned that I had just conversed with HMRC last week, to which they said nothing about any outstanding debts-although in reality, I don't owe them a penny. What struck me as particularly bizarre is that I was in the process of dialling a mate nearby when this man interrupted, spilling his tale just before the phone rang out.
