3 yearsEarlier today I got a call from the number (01997) 617429. The man on the line claimed they were from AOL and said my email had been hacked. He said they were AOL security and that they could sort it out. I asked him to prove who he really was, he just repeated that he was from AOL security. I threw a few questions at him, he went quiet for a moment and then just ended the call. Why is it that if these crooks are so well known, the Police or Ofcom haven't done anything to stop them? Regards, A PAOLOfcom3 yearsGot a call from someone claiming they were with Microsoft, said my computer was hacked! Total scam, watch out!Microsoft3 yearsGot a call from 01997617429 claiming to be Microsoft, and they somehow knew my name. They told me there was weird stuff going on with a Microsoft account of mine. Total scam, don’t fall for it. Microsoft won’t ring you up unless you’ve actually requested help. Stay safe!Microsoft3 yearsI got a call from someone claiming to be with Microsoft, saying they’d hacked into my mother-in-law’s laptop and put inappropriate stuff all over it. They ended up tricking her into handing over her bank info, which was a nightmare.Microsoft3 yearsThey said they were from 3 Mobile, but 3 Mobile have said that this number isn’t theirs. Seemed dodgy to me.EE3 yearsSomeone rang me claiming to represent EE, trying to entice me with deals on mobile contracts that seemed too good to be true. I'm rather sceptical, as I doubt the actual EE would just ring up random individuals like that. Feels like it was just a dodgy scam call to me!EE3 yearsPicked up the phone and some woman claimed she was ringing from Carphone Warehouse. I told her I’m not even a customer there and she just cut off straight away. This is the second time I’ve got calls from a different number but sounds like the same lady from that company. Think I’m just gonna block these numbers now.Carphone Warehouse3 yearsBlock the number and send a report to 7726 (just so you know, it’s not a police number). Also, consider emailing your local MP with a couple of questions: why can’t we report scam calls directly through the police’s ‘action fraud’ page anymore? And why hasn’t the phone industry rolled out Caller ID Authentication to help cut down on these scams? If you get scam texts, forward them to 7726 as well. For scam emails or screenshots of text scams, you can email the police at '[email protected]' so they can investigate.3 yearsSomeone pretending to be from Amazon called me saying there was a dodgy charge on my account for an iPhone 13. They even sent me a text with a code that looked legit from Amazon. But when I told them straight up that I knew it was a scam, they just sighed heavily and hung up abruptly!Amazon3 yearsGot a call from someone pretending I’d bought a phone on Amazon. Seriously, just hang up straight away and don’t share any info with them, it’s obviously a total scam!!EE3 yearsI don't have this number saved, so I'm just going to block it.3 yearsGot a call from someone saying they were EE, but they hung up straight away. Then about five minutes later, the same number rang back pretending to be from Three, pushing some cheap contract deals - obviously another scam. Checked the number on other sites and it’s flagged as super suspicious right now. Also noticed it was only activated today, so it’s definitely dodgy and trying to steal personal info. Seriously, watch out and don’t share any details with these lot! ππ»EE3 yearsI usually don’t pick up calls from numbers I don’t recognise 'cos I’m wary of scams. Thought I’d check this site for any details, but unfortunately, there wasn’t any info to be found!3 yearsI answered the phone but stayed quiet. There was no noise from the other side either. Seems like there wasn’t an actual person on the line. Most likely some sort of automated system that only kicks in and plays a recorded message once it hears someone talk, like me picking up and saying something.Submit Your Own Report (01997 617429)
