I handle calls at my company’s reception, and today I got a call from someone with a really thick accent, sounded like it was from one of those Indian call centres. He barely made out the name of his company, it was impossible to understand. Then he started asking for phone numbers of a couple of our employees. When I told him I couldn't share that info, he asked if I could direct him to someone who could. I mentioned the UK data protection laws a couple of times and asked where exactly he was calling from. Next thing I know, he just hung up. Pretty clear that was a scam call.

these days, it seems like nobody ever calls just to offer a hand anymore, it's always about trying to get something off you, usually cash.
