When I tried to find out why they were calling, they weren’t very clear at all. Also, there was loads of background noise making it hard to hear, so I just hung up.

Got a call today from someone named James, said he was from some Insurance Review Team about my life cover. Wouldn't tell me which firm, but mentioned they deal with big names like Aviva. Pretty obvious it wasn’t really James and sounded like it was coming out of some huge call centre. Just another lot of scam artists, as ever. The number showed up as +44 1978 638995 from Wrexham. Best to steer clear.

On Friday the 2nd of October, I got a really annoyin call from this number and the bloke actually asked if I couldn’t hear well. About 30 minutes back, a polite woman called, sounding like she was from Cheshire, Lancashire, or Manchester. She claimed to be from the Workers Party of Wales and mentioned that I’d been recorded as working in heavy industry - which is odd since I was a civil servant before I retired. She brought up some changes in the law and then said it was actually my wife she wanted to speak to, naming her. My wife worked for the NHS before retiring. The caller said she’d take us off their list. Considering the local dialling code and the fact my wife did join the Labour Party, I’m thinking they might have been going through lists and using a group name they reckon might catch people’s attention, you know...

Got two calls earlier today, but as soon as I picked up, they just cut off.

They rang up saying they were doing a survey about hearing issues among factory workers. I’m hard of hearing because of years of noise exposure at Brymbo Steelworks, but honestly, that’s minor compared to the asbestosis I got from working around the stuff all day. Even worse was the cyanide poisoning from some engineer who didn’t give a damn about how many people suffered. That same bloke later ended up working at Kronospan before causing more harm over at Sonae Liverpool. Shocking really.

Some bloke with an Asian accent rang me claiming to be from some Industrial Injuries Board or whatever. He asked for me by name and said it was because I’d apparently worked in an industrial job. When I told him I hadn’t, he just hung up straight away. The number was from my own local area code, which was the only reason I picked up. Honestly, who’d be daft enough to trust someone who basically tricks you into taking their call? I’ve blocked the number, no way I’m dealing with that again!
