I asked for my plan reference number while she was trying to sort things, and she quickly backtracked, saying she’d post the info instead, then vanished.5 yearsI got a call on my mobile from someone saying I had a two-year washing machine cover deal that could save me £70 on repairs, parts or replacement. They claimed to be from "the engineers" but I told them my insurance wasn’t with their company. What shocked me was they already had my name, address, postcode, how much I pay monthly by direct debit, which bank I use and even the first 4 digits of my bank card. Then they asked me to share the rest of my card info to set up the deal. When I said I wasn’t comfortable giving that over the phone, they said someone from their payments team would call me later and so would my bank to verify things. I asked if they could send info through the post instead but they said no because the deal hadn’t been activated yet. In the end I told them again that I prefer not to discuss this stuff on the phone and I’m happy to keep paying the higher amount I’m on now.
