This was definitely a genuine text from RBS (also Natwest). The message said my overdraft would be cancelled if I didn’t respond. I followed the tips here and just ignored it. A couple days later, my overdraft, which I’ve had for over a decade, was actually taken away, leaving me in a bit of a mess.

Like many have mentioned already, I got a message saying my bank account was going to be shut down and to ring 08001615910. I phoned just to check and it said NATWEST on the line, but I ended the call straight away. Then I rang NatWest on their official customer service number and they told me everything’s fine with my account and they never tried to get in touch. Definitely a SCAM.

BE WARNED! Scammers are now cloning phone numbers used by pretty much all banks. This might seem like it’s from NatWest, but honestly, it could be anyone. If your bank contacts you, listen carefully but don’t react straight away. Hang up and make sure the line’s fully disconnected. Then phone your bank directly using the number on the back of your card. Don’t wait too long though, as there could genuinely be a problem with your account needing quick action. Stay vigilant everyone - these tech-savvy crooks are getting cleverer every day.

Got a call from this number saying they were going to close my account but never said which account or which bank it was about. I rang the number they gave in the message and it took me to NatWest. Then I called the bank using the official number online and they told me they hadn’t contacted me about anything. No problems with my account at all. This has got to be a scam for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today, I got a rather disturbing message from this number claiming that my bank account was about to be shut down due to some supposed fraudulent activity. They insisted I either ring them up or send over my credit card details to verify my identity and supposedly safeguard my account. It all seemed rather dodgy to me, so I decided to reach out directly to my bank. Thankfully, they reassured me that it was nothing but a scam.
