I received a call from a young woman claiming to be affiliated with the Telephone Preference Service, stating that as a registered member, I had the opportunity to stop unwanted calls. Her accent suggested she might be from India or possibly another part of the Far East. The noise in the background indicated it was a call centre environment.
She proposed that for a fee, I could obtain a device to block nuisance calls. Initially, I was led to believe this contraption would be complimentary, but then she quoted a price of £69. When I expressed hesitation about sharing any personal information regarding my bank account, she insisted that she didn't require my bank details; instead, she requested the long number from my bank or credit card. I politely informed her that I was going to terminate the call. Normally, I avoid answering calls from unfamiliar numbers, but this one had a UK code tied to the Doncaster area. Please exercise caution, as this could very well be a scam.
