So, I was covering for a mate at work who's away on holiday. They don't even have a computer, never mind internet at home. Out of the blue, I get a call from someone who sounded like they had a pretty strong Indian accent, claiming to be from BT. They asked if I was the person "responsible for the broadband." This isn't the first either - it's happened twice in just three days. Honestly, it’s pretty obvious these are scam calls.

I picked up the phone and there was nothing but silence for a moment, then this woman with an Indian accent just hung up saying "Goodbye".

This morning I got a call from a guy with an Indian accent saying he was from BT Open Reach. When I told him I was just about to leave the house, he just hung up on me. Thought that was pretty rude, so I tried calling the number back only to get a message saying the number wasn’t in service. Definitely seems like a scam to me, so I’ve blocked it now.

I got a call from someone with a really strong Indian accent claiming to be from BT Openreach's tech support. A few months back, I nearly fell for a scam from an unknown number like this. Be very careful with calls like these, they’re definitely dodgy!

Just like the others here, I got a call from a lady claiming to be from BT OPENREACH, but we don’t even have BT and our computer’s fine. She hung up and then a bloke with a foreign accent rang back. He tried to make us log into our computer, but we called it out as a scam straight away and said we'd keep him talking so he wouldn't bother anyone else. We also mentioned that Openreach never contacts customers directly, they'd go through TALK TALK if they needed to. After that, he ended the call. Does anyone know how we can get BT to involve the police?

I just had a call from some BT speed guy. Let him go on for like 8 minutes while I acted clueless. Then I told him if his name was Kevin, then I’m the queen of England. He just hung up on me! Proper rude, haha!

This morning, I got a call from someone claiming to be from BT, telling me there was an issue with my router that needed fixing. Thing is, I haven’t had any issues with my internet, TV, or phone, plus I haven’t been with BT for ages. Thought I’d humour him for a bit, just to see what he’d say next - it was pretty entertaining as he got all eager. Eventually, I gave him a piece of my mind before ending the call.

This is definitely a scam. Whenever someone rings up pretending to be from a business or some official group and doesn’t specifically ask for you by your name, always request the name of the person they’re after. They usually can’t give you one. A genuine caller would know who they want since they’d have your details on hand. These scammers just grab numbers from countless sources that trade personal info to fraudsters. Try asking for your own name and watch them either freak out, get rude, or just drop the call.

This afternoon I got a call from this number. The person on the line, with an Indian accent, claimed to be from BT and said that my router was infected with a virus and that my internet would be disconnected for ten days starting tomorrow morning. They asked me to do certain things on my keyboard, but I didn’t go along with it and ended the call. Later I looked up BT’s official helpline and rang 0800 800 150. A friendly Indian man answered and confirmed that the call was a fraud and definitely not from BT.

Some bloke rang me saying he was from BT and that my internet was slow because of malware or something dodgy being downloaded. I couldn’t help but laugh, and he got all defensive like, "Why are you laughing?" I just told him what I really thought about the whole thing, and then he just ended the call. Got a phone call from this number earlier today, Saturday 21 July, around 1:40pm. The person speaking had a very noticeable Asian accent and claimed to be from the BT tech team. He told me my internet was going to be disconnected for ten days starting tomorrow because my modem was sending loads of error messages. When I asked for his contact number so I could ring BT myself, he said I could handle it with him instead. But as soon as I said I’d prefer to speak to BT directly, he just hung up. Feels like a dodgy scam but not sure exactly what their angle is.
