The guy was really hard to catch what he was saying, but I picked up that he'd kept asking about my wife's laptop. After a bit of confusion, I told him he must have the wrong place. There was a long silence on the line and then he just ended the call. It's strange because normally, when I check 1471, the number isn't left behind. This was different from what I'm used to.12 yearsI got a call from a bloke claiming he was with Virgin Media, saying my computer had some corrupted files but nothing to do with viruses. He told me to open Google and type in www.join.me, then click ‘allow’ so he could remotely check my computer with some software. He said if he spotted minor issues, he’d fix them free, but if it was serious stuff, I’d have to pay. I ended the call there and tried ringing Virgin myself, but the guy kept me on the line and wouldn’t hang up. After a while, he finally did, so I called Virgin’s tech support. I played dumb about computers to waste her time, then told her straight up it was a scam and asked for her phone number. She hung up sharpish. Managed to catch the number by dialling 1471.
